Gauge Install
Gauge Install
I just got my new DynaFact gauges in and I was wondering how I could get power to them with out going into the fuses. I have heard of some kind of seperate fuse box and some type of circuit deal, sorry I don't know much about electrical stuff. Don't mean to beat a dead horse I have had some bad runins with wires and fuses.
CarQuest has a sweet fuse tap that works great. It's got a pigtail on it for splicing a wire to it and that way you can run it right off the dimmer fuse w/out any problems or cutting/splicing existing wires. I'll get the pn and post it up soon.
But the Painless Wiring fuse block doesn't add any additional load to the stock circuitry.
It uses a new hot wire straight off the battery, with it's own circuit breaker to provide new Always Hot & Hot with the key circuits for all your additional accessories.

If I added a mini circuit what else could I used because I use the Cigarette lighter to charge my cell phone. what kind of wire would I need and would it hurt my electrical system with more of a load.
Just a couple of gauges, or just a dash light or two probably wont hurt as long as there's no other problems.
If there's going to be a problem in a wire, I'd rather it be in a separate harness, than the stock one.
Plus I'm adding more electrical stuff all the time (CB radio, Fueling Box, split the stock clearance lights load off of the stock headlight switch, etc) so it makes more sense for me to be able to feed them independent of the stock wiring.

You should have an unused circuit you can tap into in the interior fuse block (you will need to look at your owner's manual to find out which one), but I would still recomend the painless wiring kit from Geno's; at under $50 it will give you plenty of room for expansion and as Shovelhead pointed out, it will not interfere in any way with your current wiring harness.
