gauge install

so i finally bought some gauges...boost and egt... now i'm wondering where the heck to install them. i'm guessing the boost goes into the intake horn? is there anyother way to do it without drilling holes in it? and the egt goes into the manifold pre-turbo and i have to drill and tap that right? also if anyone remembers what size bits they used that would be great. thanks!!

for your truck there is a small plug underneath the intake "horn" and kinda beside the injection pump. take that plug out, install your boost line and fitting. pyro goes exhuast manifold (pre turbo) tap to 1/8 npt, remember there is two exhuast "passages" in the manifold flange close to where the turbo mounts. take the turbo off and you will see for yourself.

so does it matter which "passage" it goes in and is it safe to tap the manifold without taking it or the turbo off?? as i would guess that neither one would want to come off very easily.

drill and tap the rear passage...A pencil magnet and grease come in handy to collect the shavings while drilling and tapping...And yes its safe to do so without taking it apart...Just use the magnet to collect shavings from inside the manifold

Also drill bit size depends whether its 1/8 (11/32 bit) or 1/4 pipe tap...

[QUOTE=SPLnut;1630760]drill and tap the rear passage...
which makes me wonder about mine, i broke a drill bit off in my rear one and couldn't get it out, so i tapped the front one. the dang drill bit didn't make it all the way through but i used too big a pilot bit so when drilling use something like 1/8 to start, i used a 9/32 or something and it didn't work out right...

if you use a pilot you'll get more shavings in your manifold...But a pilot hole does make it so much easier...Steady hand with a good bit (not wal-mart's cheap bits) will get it with out a pilot hole or breaking anything...

so i got the bit and a tap and die set.... figured i needed a 5/16th bit and a 1/8 NPT tap. next question..... i have the autometer ultra series gauges, is it ok to put the egt probe all the way in or do i need to figure out a way to space it out?? also what wires did you hook up too for the light on the gauges and did you drill another hole in the fire wall or use one thats all ready there to run the wires and boost hose into the cab? thanks! also anyone have any pics of where they installed their egt probe and boost line?? just want to be 100% positive on where i'm supposed to put them. thanks again..
