I originally installed DiPricol gauges in my truck because I liked the look. After two lift pump changes, I decided to check the accuracy of the DiPricol FP gauge. I compared it to a gauge of known accuracy. You guessed it! The DiPricol gauge was reading low by 4 PSI. I contacted Dave Meheen at Diesel Power Products, where I purchased the gauges. Keep in mind that I had purchased the gauges over a year ago. Without hesitation, Dave sent me a new gauge and a new and improved diaphragm type isolator. After I installed the new gauge, the pressure now tracked the calibrated gauge. There was one problem, however, DiPricol had stopped manufacturing the style gauges that I had, so now I had one gauge that didn’t match the rest. I asked Dave if anything could be done about this and he again came through for me and offered to swap my old pyrometer and boost gauges for the new style gauges. He only wanted $20.00 for the trouble! Now THAT is customer service! I just got through installing the new gauges and found that the new gauges also read differently than the old ones. On climbing a 10% grade near my home, I always got the pyrometer to sit on 1000 degrees. Now with the new gauge, it reads 1200 degrees. The boost gauge used to read 38 PSI on this hill. Now it reads 35 PSI. What’s the point in all this? Don’t always assume that your gauges are telling you the truth! Imagine having a pyrometer that was 200 degrees low. What if I believed that my EGT was 1300 when in reality it was 1500!

 

That's why I'm worried with my digitals. My boost gauge was bad and I didn't even realize it. I knew the FP was bad (glad I'm done with that).

 

In my business, I guarantee the accuracy of my instruments. I wish the automotive instrument companies would do the same.

 

I hear you, in the research I do we're usually going out four digits below the decimal point and it has to be spot on.
Won't find that in an automobile.
