Gasket Maker question

Lightbulb Gasket Maker question

I was going to use red Gasket material where my intake horn meets the air intake manifold. says it is good up to 650 degrees, is it safe? Ill be sure not to let any hang on the inside but Im a little worried it may get to hot. what do yall think. any help would be awesome.

I use rtv silicone on the old gaskets, no problems.

heres a trick for ya, any high temp RTV can be used...coat the inside of exhaust pipes when you join them together, then you dont need to clamp them so hard that you crimp the pipe (most times even after crimping the pipe it still leaks) years later when you need to replace something a couple smacks with a hammer and the exhaust will slide apart and you can complete the repair without replacing everything or ruining the existing good piping.
this is especially good were folks have a rust problem

BTW good quality RTV (high temp) will not even burn off when used at the manifold on a header gasket.

Hey, excellent advice there nickg, I've never thought of using RTV on exhaust. Might have to try that.

BTW, I went to Cummins and got the gasket for that same spot, cost me about 3 bucks, coated each side with some permatex and stuck it on. I have, however, RTV'd my fair share of stuff and never had a problem with it. We use it every time we pull a drive axle shaft out of a semi/pickup at work, never had one leak.
