funky fuel gauge??

my 95 cummins only shows 3/4 tank of fuel even though ive just filled it right up. what can be causing this? makes it kinda hard to plan fillups on long trips...wondering if this is a common issue or just me

Yes, it's a common issue. The fuel level sending units in these trucks are known to be unreliable. A replacement unit is readily available, but you'll need to drop the tank or lift the bed to do the swap.

Not bad. Just make sure the tank is low but you can take the bed off which is much easier. I did mine but my problem is in the electronics somewhere else so I just use my trip meter.

I didnt have access to an engine hoist or lift.. and no one around to help me lift the bed off the frame.
I emptied the tank into some jerry-cans with a pump and unhooked the filler and electricals. Then the straps.
I found that a pair of motorcycle lifts was perfect for this job.
