Fuel Systems

Well with all the new mods on my truck, im thinking im going to need a fuel system upgrade. I had originally thought of ditching the over flow valve for a fuel pressure regulator so i could set the FP to my desired level, but i just dont feel like my stock LP is going to be able to keep up. The FASS is a good system, but i have a hard time shelling out $700+ dollars for an electric pump and a couple filters. So what else is there? Ive heard lots of good things about the Aeromotive pumps, and they are MUCH more reasonably priced. Whatchyall think? HOPEFULLY i'll get my truck up and running again soon. The mechanical lift pumps on the 12valves are great pumps, and seem to work awfully well, but i have a hard time believin its gonna be able to keep up with a tweaked pump, lazer cut dvs, and DDP4s. I like the looks of the Aeromotive pumps, and its not near as expensive as the fass. If i were to buy an Aeromotive pump could i just put it inline with my stock LP and keep the stock lines and pickup? Or would i be a lot better off to go ahead and run 1/2 inch lines and a new pickup in the tank?

I wouldn't rule out the LP on your truck just yet. My buddy is running a #0 plate, 191 DV's, 370's, 3k GSK, HX40, and with a ball point pen spring in his overflow valve is hitting 40+ psi at idle and IIRC nothing below 20psi at WOT. I'd keep the mechanical pump if I were you.

If adding a pump, did you look at FASS's HPFP? It's the same pump w/o the filters and competitively priced with many others. Click on the pump... here http://www.dieselpp.com/

the aeromotive cannot be used with the factory pump unless you did two completely seperate systems and set it up as an auxillary on a switch and used a check valve.

also it must be run with a bypass regulator. the inllet and outlet are -10 so you would have to find something to reduce if you were going to use you stock lines. (bad idea way to small for that pump) you would also need a seperate return the stock is way to small to keep up with the pump it moves aton of fuel.

I would use a 1/2 inch pickup and 1/2 inch line (I can get Brian to make your lines at john deere) the aeromotive marine (rated for diesel fuel and 2000 hours of continous use) then a large frame mounted fleet guard filter water seperator. run it straight to the injectoin pump. remove the overflow and moun the regulator on the return. Run your injectors back you stock return, and make a seperate return for the regulator away from the pickup (at least
3/8)

the fass may be good on a 24v that requires less pressure but this aeromotive is rated for 95 psi continous use and is not even in the same league as the fass. it will fuel a 1300+ hp motor, plus the regulator you need is boost sensing so we could set it up to idle at 30 and it will rise on a 1:1 ratio with boost to the max desired setting (id prolly set max pressure to about 60 psi)

I can put you together the kit you need as im doning this on my truck as we speak (as well as building my new motor) and my truck is an ext cab long bed so all the lines would prolly be the same length. it will be more expensive than the fass tough but it will blow it away. theres a reason you see aeromoitve on the 12v pulling trucks

Oh ye of little faith . Before you get pump happy just wait till we get it together. I still think a new stock lift pump and the regulator will be fine. It was fine before, and there wont be much more fuel goin through it than you had before. Just the bigger injectors, and maybe a pinch more fuel out of the pump. I know the SPS62 wouldnt even think about clearing the smoke, so I think you just need to wait and see what it does first. It will be stuttering if it cant get enough fuel

a tuned 215 cut dv's and ddp4's and my overflow shimmed to make 35psi at idle would run out of fuel so bad it would start poping so loud it sounded like a 3rd gen sucking the rail dry.

I really doudt it will keep up the truck should be able to make in excess of 600 hp with the new mods

Thats kind of what im thinking. With my new mods hopefully I should be able to break 600 pretty easy. I just dont have enough faith in the stock LP. I guess i could always just try it and see how it is, but i remember Bobcat698 going through the same deal with his, and that was with a new LP. IIRC he said it was idling at 40 psi but at WOT his FP gauge was bottoming out to zero, so I doubt mine will be much different. He was running basically the same fueling set up as me. I'll see if i can dig the thread up
