Fuel Pressure

Ok my buddy is starting to get mad. He got a new fuel pump Walbro 392. Ok now he have like 20 psi idle and like no lower than 15. But some times he can drop it down to nothing. New Filter, strainer, and a new gauge. Why does it do this? Its not all the time. Connections are good, whats wrong? Thanx,

Scotty

I'm the guy with the pump and problem I was at my buddys house and didnt realize it was still under his name. I have a cobalt gauge. I did have the juice with the attitude as the gauge but I just changed it so I'm just confused.

I called rich at GDP today and he said to replace the bypass valve on the VP44 so tommorow we will see what that does.

I'm interested in a resolution to this as well. Most of the time it's rock steady and great, then sometimes, it just acts worse than an old Carter lift pump after 10,000 miles. Weird!

Ok After I put in my Injectors I didnt have a fuel pressure problem. I dont know why. It still fluctuated alot but never dropped off. Now I put the new bypass valve in tonight and so far so good. It runs about 19-20 Idle, and 15 WOT.

Hmmm... my VP-44 is only 8 months and 10,000 miles old. Where is the bypass valve at? and how much is it and do i just get it at a Cummins dealer? Thanks Bret

The valve is the front banjo fitting on the main pump that is hooked to the return fuel line. I changed mine this weekend and now when I shut truck off the gauge takes a while to drop, maybe 45 seconds, before it would drop to zero in 1 second. It seems to have solved my warm engine starting problem. BYpass valve is supposed to hold 14 lbs pressure in the pump., my old one held 0 lbs.

Where did you buy that bypass valve? Mine has the same problem, in fact, it doesn't like to start when the nose of my truck is pointed uphill. My fuel pressure drops to zero in 0.5 seconds!

I, too, had a warm start problem last summer. Don't get it now that it is cold and I haven't driven as much. I would like to know where you got it, how much it was (ballpark) and how long it took to replace.

You wouldn't happen to have the part #? Sorry, should of asked that previously. But it just makes ordering it easier and I know I'm getting what I wanted.
