free GSK for the p pump bunch
I have done some looking around the net for prices of the pac-hp 100-29 governor spring 4k and found a price of $88.50 from Mighty Diesel - Diesel Performance Parts 304-354-7008 thanks tony . I tow a 28' fiver with my 95 ram and want to add the spring. I live in Canada and they will ship for $19.00 to me . sound better than the price I see here ! $107.50 in my hand
washers vs replacement springs/seats
I did both, and wanted to share the results.
I made and installed a good set of washers about 60 thou thick. They worked as advertised and allowed the truck to rev to about 3k without a problem. I installed them and set the idle with the truck on the lift. The truck ran fine, but the throttle was extremely touchy to me. Halfway home from the garage, I let off the throttle and the truck almost dies, my idle has went away. I figured the washers were not totally seated on the spring keepers when on the lift and they just seated themselves fully. The throttle is what really made me want to try the springs. Going over bumps in low gear, my foot would bounce on the throttle, the truck would surge forward, and I would usually have to hit the clutch to stop the mess. I seriously feared for my drive line.
Last evening I installed a name brand GSK. The truck was no longer as sensitive to the throttle, and still pulled to 3K. It felt like stock, just that it would stretch out forever when revving and not fall off. It is beautiful. I don't worry when letting others drive the truck if they aren't used to it.
Summary: The washers are awesome as a free mod. If you have more patience, better foot control, or better tuning ability than me, they might make you very happy. To save the money, if you like working on your truck they are worth trying. For me, the ease of use is totally worth buying a GSK from a reputable vendor.

I think if you have a scale accurate to .001 gram and can find washers that all weigh the same that the washer mod will work easy.
Problem is when they all weigh different and are spinning at 2500 rpm or so is it throws the governor out of balance.

Just did the Governer Washer Kit (lol)...Love the added fueling! Did a homebrew 0 plate at the same time and what a difference...38psi at WOT, but it runs too hot for me to sleep easily.

great free mod. but for 80 bucks got a 4k gsk. left the inner spring out as i still have to do my valve springs. this would work but i as some others question the balance issue. not all washers weigh the same even though they r the same nominal size. i balance rotors quite after as part of my daily job and u can get up to 3 grams difference. not sure i want that inside my pump at 3500 rpm
personally id spend the money if u can afford the New springs. that'll save u the trouble of touchy throttle and messing with the idle. not dissing the washer method or the person who started the post, as it is great info. just sharing my thoughts

I have had mine in for a long time too. No problems, but I do notice that my trans likes to stay in a higher gear all the time and I think it's because of the minimal movement of the tv cable.
