FP guage hookup

Okkkk, I'm still doing my guage install a little at a time. I have the pyro mounted and the boost but I need to know if anyone picks up their fuel pressure at the VP44 inlet. I've changes fuel filters and even a lift pump and it picked up prime but will letting the fuel out of the pump when I change banjos(scarey thing for me to do) cause it to not pick up prime and start? I never have had to do the loosen the injector lines thing and don't know how to if it didn't start. I have a new banjo bolt with the 1/8 in tapped hole for the fuel line.
Thanks, Larry

FP Gauge

I used the Schrader valve on the VP44 as my FP test port. An old AC charging hose uses the matching Schrader valve connector. I used one of these and cut off the "can" end of the hose and attached a hose barb fitting. That mates up perfectly with the NPT fitting at the isolator.

thanks Rattle!

I want to use the Schrader as the test port but I'm doing a mechanical (no isolator)so would I still use the hose? I have a new banjo with inlet tapped into it but just hated to lose all the fuel out of the pump.

Or another way is to use a tapped banjo at the bottom of the fuel filter and run from there to your FP line. This way also saves some of the hammering to the gauge and furthermore you still have your test port which if you use the AC hose thing works great when you change fuel filters, banjos or whatever. With the hose attached to the test port and the other end in some sort of recepticle just bump the starter 2 times or until a steady flow of fuel comes out, remove hose, put cap back on test test port and truck starts right up without any hammering or anything. Gets all of the trapped air out immediately.

could I totally remove the Schrader valve and install the new banjo bolt and hook the braided line to it there? That would definitely show the pressure to the VP44 wouldn't it?

Hello
You should be fine to hook up your gauge, without anything to worry about.
When you have your gauge hooked up you can bump your starter and watch your gauge once it builds fuel pressure you can start your engine.
When I change fuel filters I prime the canister about 1/2 full then install the filter then I bump the starter and watch the fuel PSI gauge once It goes up to 13/15 psi I crank up the truck and check things for leaks and such.
It works for me.
Good luck, once you do it, it's easy. You'll be fine.
See Ya
Happy New Year
Chris

I see 12 PSI at idle and down to 7 at wot. Thanks for everyones help, I just had some kind of mental block about these guages but I'm thrilled they're finally in and working.

Youre right ! I've heard that too but this pump is only a couple months old. I know new doesn't assure that is is good but now that I have a guage I can keep an eye peeled in case it goes lower. I think 7 is marginal but that was really at wot and the Edge may make it draw lower too. I wish I had done the guages sooner now that they are in.

Hey Rattle, I think the EZ is pulling our pressures down and your injectors could that be causing it to be low as well? I have 275's ordered and I guess mine will go down too. I think I'll get some high flow banjos before I put the injectors in. I'm looking seriously at the FASS system, what do you think about it?

BTW I hooked my FP guage up like you talked about in a previous post except I didn't have an isolator. Fuel in the cab and so far so good.

I have high flow banjos ordered as well. I think the FASS system is a really nice setup, however, it's expensive. If I was going to go any higher with my hp, I would probably go with the FASS system. I'm going to see how the banjos work first.

BTW, nice gauges!
