FP Gauge

I am about to order my gauges-(pryo, fp, trans temp) but have a few questions. I am looking at Autometer Z series...good gauges??? Any other brand just as good, cheaper? I have heard the fp gauge helps save lift pumps but how? And what do you do when you discover a problem? Sorry for ignorant questions but I have heard how $$$ lift pumps run.

I don't know about the autometer's but I have Diprocals and they're great so far. Some guys run Isspro also. It's not so much the lift pump that is expensive, it's the injection pump around $1200 big ones that will kill your pocket. Gauge will tell you your fuel psi. Your fuel psi is what cools and lubricates your injection pump. If your lift pump is bad and has less than 5 psi it's not properly cooling your injection pump(VP-44) and it will have a short life. It has been discussed a few times on this site, but I also believe the outside temp has a lot to do with your VP-44 failing(electronically). If only someone made a VP-44 cooler!!! Do a search on these subjects and prepare for some reading.

Tayloe08,

Any of the Auto Meter's are good products, their FP is electric, easier to hook up but costs more etc kind of a trade depending on how you look at it. We stock all the Auto Meters, DiPricol's and Isspro, as well as isolators, installation wiring harnesses and mounts etc. Give us a call if you have any questions and we'll be glad to help you.

Been running the Autometer Z-series since my truck was new. Good gauges, no problems. Last time I checked, though, the Z-series FP was calibrated either to 15 psi or 60 psi, neither of which helps much. That could've changed by now, however.

Went with a Westach FP calibrated to 30 psi, and haven't had a problem there. It looks a bit like the Z-series.
