Fog Lights
Fog Lights
Is anyone out there using 50 W replacement bulbs in their stock fog lights? I want to get something a little brighter but do not want to melt the housing.
Thanks

Don't know if you'll find them I looked but couldn't ,then decided to go with the piaa 510s to be safe ,the 50 watt "may" overload your harness and "may" melt those plastic lenses. The piaas are pricy I paid $320.00 (CDN) for them but man are they bright ,you would have to see it to believe it, and they have glass lenses. Now if I could ony figure out what wire to tap for relay witout pokin holes in all my wires. BTW cshiflet you geting any inner fender rub with those 295's and what type of level kit do ya got.
Caper - I just added a set of the PIAA 510 Fogs to my new bumber...really nice! Read somewhere they are 55 watts...someone else told me 85 watts? Do you know?
Found a great source, great customer service and excellent prices ($193.00 US).

cshiflet - The PIAAS take an H3 bulb. Don't know if this will work in factory fogs or not, they do put out fairly high heat.

Wal Mart sells the 100W H3 Bulbs for about $7.00 USD.
I bought a set of driving lights with steel cases. Installed the 100W bulbs. Also remember that 100W bulbs are illegal to be used on the highway...
The problem I have with them applies to winter time only. When the temperature is cold and you turn on the fog lamp it seems to blow the bulbs quick! Not just the element the whole glass cartridge explodes! So I tend to keep mine off during the winter time. Kinda of tried of replacing 100W H3 bulbs...

The 295 rub the control arm if I have the steering wheel at full lock, but other than that they are fine. The level kit I have is the Tuff Country, took about a hour to install and a few choice words, and it was done.
I found replacement bulbs at JCwhitney they have the 37.5 W and the 50 W I was just checking to see if anyone had used 50 W in the stock lights, I like the clean look of were the fog light switch is stock.

rjohnson I believe the 510s are 55 watts but the bulb and reflector tecnology make them seem like 85 watts and I believe it, man they throw a strong white light.I have the driving lights you got the fogs I bet they give lost of low light.BTW Clay I have 285s and no level . I was going to go to 315s and d25s but after lookig at your pics I think I,ll go that route ,I won't have to worry about the front sitting higher with the d25s, and the 295s wont be as bad with my 3.54s. Your truck has a good stance .
I looked at 315, but they were too big for my taste, I still want to be able to pull a good bit. I guess noone out there has used 50 W in the stock lights, I better get the 37.5 W I would hate to melt my housing.

we (cshiflet and i) have HID lights on our hummer at the fire dept. we belong to. they are for "off road use only" but we use them from time to time on some winding back roads we have in our first due area. when you dim them back to stock low beam you might as well turn off the headlights, those things are awesome.
