I was wondering if anyone out there can make sense of this. Fluidampr said to torque the dapmer bolts to 30 ft-lbs plus an additional 60 degrees? How in the world does a guy figure out 60 degrees/torque in such a small area?? Should a guy just use Cummins torque specs??? Also, should a guy use blue loctite or something like that just in case???? Thanks guys...

 

You can get a dial attachment that goes between the socket and ratchet that will tell you the degrees. Or, if you're working from below, put your ratchet at the 4 o'clock position and turn till it comes to 6 o'clock.

 

I use 155-164 NM. The instructions with the Fluiddampr are not accurate in my opinion.

 

UH PourinDiesel, could you fill me in on the 155-164 NM. What is that in ft-lbs???

 

160 newton meters comes in at 118 ft lbs.

 

Myself , I would do it the fluidamper way , all you have to do is make a mark on the balance right where one of the hex points is and go back one flat on the hex and make a mark on the bolt , tighten it to the mark on the balancer and you have 60 degree's , each hex point on the bolt is 60 degree's on a six point bolt , six times sixty make 360 degree's , you get a more accurate torque using the torque to yeild method.

 

Thanks so much, that makes more sense to me. The factory specs are 135 ft-lbs. Do you think a guy should use blue loctite?

 

With a good torque you wont need the loctite.

 

It appears that the last person did so that's why I'm curious???

i always torque them to 93 ft-lbs

 

Mine just showed up today and there was a note in the box that shows they recommend pin locking the damper on with a kit that they sell for our cummins motors if you plan on running them at high rpm. Has anyone used this?

 

Your 05 already has a pin. The RPM thing is for the sledpullers generally speaking.
If you torque it correctly and use the stock pin which is already there then you should be good to go.

 

How about on an 01? I've got one ordered. Been ordered for 2 weeks. I'm hearing they are backordered. Anyone else hearing that?
