So it's a good deal.

Now what about reliability/longevity of my truck?

I want to drive this thing till the wheels fall off, i don't want to add performance parts that will end up cutting the life of my motor.

thanks,

Kelly

Dude, its a 12valve Cummins. One of the strongest engines ever made if you ask me. Dont worry yet. You have a long ways to go before that is the case. Just drive it, maintain it and love it.

Key is not HOW MUCH hp you have...it's HOW OFTEN you use a lot of hp!
Jim Fulmer (also OKC) is at 870 hp. Drives around town in Valet Mode....about 450 hp....which won't even make your truck work hard.
I turn my TST Box down most of the time and don't use the H2O/Meth Injection unless hauling heavy...probably daily drive around 400 hp.

The 5.9L CTD is used in camper and marine applications, all the time, at 400-500 hp! Dodge has detuned it considerably!

Drive it sensibly 95% of the time and enjoy the HP the rest of the time. The high HP guys that I know well actually baby their trucks....most of the time!

No worries!

I don't abuse my truck in any way. Would it be ok to save some money up to install gauges later on?

get guages ASAP...that will keep you Engine running longer. With those simple mods it should be ok for a while without them but the sooner you can afford to get some the better.

I understand for monitoring purposes, but how else are gauges going to extend the life of my motor?

Will these mods decrease the life of my motor? I was thinking no, but now i might reconsider.

I wouldnt recommend that 6 plate untill you get a tranny.
My 10 plate toasted my stock rebuild in 22k miles and thats with no towing.

I wouldnt worry about hurting the motor, turn your concerns to your transmission.

oh btw NICE banshee. I miss mine.

With those mods you can create more heat then is good for the rest of the stock engine. If you do not watch these it will shorten the life of the the engine.

They do not extend the life just help you keep from shortening it.

You wont hurt anything with the plate. Just dont keep into the throttle hard while the torque converter is trying to lock up in overdrive; and if it feels like it is shuddering, or slipping, either let out of it some, or tap the brakes(which will unlock the converter). When i only had the fuel plate in my truck, i NEVER got it hot enough to worry about it. I could have ran it as hard as i wanted without the gauges, and been fine, but i am glad i had them anyway. They are fun to watch, and help you have peace of mind. The gauges alone wont extend the life of your motor, its just that by you monitoring the EGT's, and adjusting your foot accordingly, you will keep from getting it to hot(which as i said i dont think you will have a problem with anyway. Also; i would go ahead, and go with the #6. I love my #5, and as long as i wasnt abusing it, my stock tranny was fine. The $50 transgo shift kit really helped out a lot though. You wont hurt your motor at all, and i think your tranny will be fine, so just have fun with your new power, and sound. Sounds like a great deal for all that installed. Good luck with it!

Eric

This would be the first "mod" before adding power . . .

Thanks for all the help guys....my girlfriend is getting me all this for christmas, so i figure i will treat myself to gauges after the holidays...

How can you tell my tranny is slipping, or having troubles with the amount of torque my motor is delivering?

thanks,

Kelly
