Finish with the rims

After 4 days I finally got all of the rims polished and I've got to say that they look 100x better. I ended up wet sanding them with 2000 grit paper and then buffing them with red buffing compound on a drill and then hitting them with blue magic and then waxing them. They turned out spectacular. Not quite the sheen they had when new but much better than what they are. I was really surprised at how well the center caps came out. I would have thought that steel wool would scratch them but it didn't make a mark on them. Thanks a bunch for all the help yall gave me. I've included some pictures of the before and after. Thanks again yall.

Unacceptable that you had to do that at all to new wheels.

Those look great. What did you use with the steel wool to get the rust off?And was it a fine steel wool?I have a chrome 5in. tip on my 02 and it's rusting pretty bad.I really like S.S. tips but it was on the truck when I got it so I would like to clean it up a bit.Any ideas on how to get it lookin' better?

Yeah. It is pretty unacceptable. If I had known this when I bought them, I wouldn't have bought them. I think it's ridiculous to pay $800 for a set of wheels that are supposed to be used off road only to have to clean/polish them every week. The next wheels I buy will have a clear coat on them from the factory.

I used 0000 steel wool and just rubbed the chrome. Didn't put anything on it. It leaves no scratches and really polishes the chrome. I was very impressed. So impressed I used it to polish my exhaust tip and it came out beautiful.

I had a chrome BMX bike a while back, and to clean it up and get the rust off it once in a while i would use steel wool, and penetrating fluid. that would get a nice shine, and it would never leave any marks hope thats of some help!

The clear coat turns yellow after a while, then ya gotta buff that off.

I hit mine twice a year with Mother's and a buffing wheel, follow it up with wadding polish and then baking soda. They get reeel shiny

1 more tip blue, If your washin them, do not use hard water! it makes them turn to crap in a hurry! try bottled water! seriously! use it sparingly, whipe of right away, hit them with polish or rub down with mothers and sprinkle some baking powder to get the black to whipe right off!
