finer fuel filtration

I am wanting to go to 10 or better yet 5 microns as a minimum on my 1995 Cummings. Some research tells me that my current filter is only 20 micron with multiple passes And that is just crap.

My research also shows that going from the Fleetguard FS 1253 20 Micron
to the Fleetguard FS 19522 would get me to 7 microns and a FS 19528 would get me to 2 microns.

The problem is the FS 1253 is a spin on and the FS 19522/ 19528 are not, They need a filter housing.

Do I need to upgrade to a multiple filter set up, a remote fliter set up or is there a spin on filter that will work?

This is going to become very important as I will be switching to biodiesel in the next few months and that is gonna loosen up a lot of crap in the system that will need to be filtered and 20 microns is HUGE.

Thanks for any help

If you you figure the number of 500,000 to million mile '95s still on the road that have been running the 20 micron filter that Cummins designed to be used with their engine you have to wonder what advantage a finer filter is. It will just clog up sooner trapping particles that would normally pass harmlessly though the engine.

Many people fail to realize the 12 valve 5.9 was originally developed to be used in third world countries and still be bullet proof with poor fuel, oil and maintenance.

I agree with Bill, having a super fine filter would just lead to more frequent clogging. The filter Cummins specs protects enough to give your engine a longer lifespan than the Dodge stuff arround it.

the vormax filter setup the big rigs use comes with a decent filter I forget what the rating on it is. It swirls the fuel to get the crud to drop out before the filter.
It can be made to fit on the ram's

Thanks guys. I think I am just gonna switch brands. I found another filter that is 15 micron single pass that is a cross reference on the fs 1253 number.

And again my biggest issue is gonna be all the crud for the first month or so on Biodiesel. First tank full or three are each gonna clog up a filter, or so common wisdom goes.
