I f I lived where you are I would agree, but this week we have seen -30'c, I use additves but still would like to run the fuel heater canister, I am more or less wondering if there will be a problem running the unit with no filter, will it work as it supposed to?

Lets start something here and now to ease confusion:

FASS = Fuel Air Seporations System

HPFP = High Pressure Fuel Pump AkA = FASS II; Baby FASS

SOOOOOOO FASS has filters....the HPFP has a "Rock Filter" (Prefilter)

The FASS Does not need the stock unit to filter. The HPFP Does. You can rig a heater if needed.....you may loose some pressure running it through the stock canister...but not enough to worry...unless you are pushing 800+ haha!

when i had mine installed by NADP they bypassed the filter housing and directly to the VP. would that pump not create alot of heat running full blast all the time? would you want to bypass the fuel heater in the summer wouldn't you so you don't over heat the VP? i was thinking about plumbing it into fuel heat/filter canister myself. i guess you could just unplugthe heater in summer,eh?

I am running the fass system thourgh my stock canister with out the filter in it. For the heater and water in the fuel sensor, don't know if I really need them but got them. I cut the top outer ring off the old fuel filter and use it as a gasket between the housing and the top.

Something to think about

I am using my original filter also. The fass pump is a rotory vane pump that means you have two metal service's rubbing against each other and you could have wear particals from your pump that without the filter could ruin the vp44.Too me its cheaper to buy the filter than too take the chance I've already broke most everthing else.Just my way of thinking.

The FASS pump, at least in the generation I have, is a gerotor pump, not a vane pump (a big selling point for me). Not that it bears on your point about wear particles.
