FASS rebuild

I am thinking of replacing the spring and brushes in my FASS pump because its not holding the same PSI it used to. When I bought the truck 16 months ago it would run 16-17psi idle and never dip below 13-14 WOT

now it only holds 13psi idle and 8-9psi WOT and is slowly getting weaker, and i also noticed the other night after i had a vapor lock/stalling issue, when i bump the started the pump was running very erratically. so im thinking of just over hauling it with a higher pressure spring and new brushes.

How hard is it to rplace these items? I dont wanna get into the pump with little knowledge of its works and have little pieces fly all over and me be stuck without a fuel pump

Not a lot in there to confuse you. Just take your time and get a good look at it each step of the way.
I don't remember enough to tell you the steps, but had mine apart and it's not complicated if your mechanically inclined.

That's funny, those of us who went the Holley Blue route got slammed on this forum for doing things '2nd class', and 'cheap' and that we would wind up spending twice what the FASS cost changing the Holley Blue pump every couple of months.... Now I see that the one of the 'lift pumps to end all lift pumps' is dying after only 1.5 years....

Humm, my Holley blue is like the day I put it in, two years and 40k miles later.......

Getblown 5.9, this is in no way directed at you... You never gave anyone a hard time about the Holley's, I was just commenting on the fact that yours is dying on you so soon and the 'others' on here who 'sell' the FASS would have you believe they last forever and that everything else is junk...

My ORIGINAL LP is putting out numbers better than BB's fass, and all I've done is fuel lines.

BB-- sorry to hear the FASS isn't delivering (pun intended) like it's supposed to. I never was convinced it was the answer in the long term. Now evidence seems to be coming in to support that.

I regret that you are "exhibit A" in this case

the way i look at is i got it as a bonus when i bought the truck used...if i had to upgrade my own system i would not have dropped the coin on it...i would have went the cheaper 2nd class route. but since i have it im gonna use it, this FASS unit could be as old as almost 4 years and 69K miles (thats what the truck is at now)

ive only put 30K on it in the 16months ive owned it and since then ive noticed the drop in pressure. im using an autometer electric fuel gauge instead of mechanical but i dont think the problem is in the gauge reading low. if i have to put $7.50 for a spring and $XX for new brushes and a saturday afternoon to rebuild it then its worth it to me. i just need to solve the problem to see if it may help with my lifting problem because stalling twice a week and standing out in the cold with a 19mm wrench cranking the truck over and cracking injector lines is getting old.

My FASS came with a 5 year warrenty (just a tad longer than a Holley) so... Perhaps its not transferable but I would look into it
