EZ, Smarty or Other?

Within the next month Im going to be puttin a FASS system on my truck. What other performance mod should I put on it. I want something that wont kill my stock clucth, injectors and the such. I dont need anything too crazy. I want to be able to get a little extra hp when pulling, but nothing serious. Plus, I want the option of being able to get a little extra mpg when I would like. But the main thing is, I want some smoke. I dont need anything that looks like my truck just caused a solar eclipse, just a little bit of the good ole black smoke. I know the EZ, you can unhook the MAP and get a good bit of smoke. So what woud you all do.

Your probably not going to get many responses as we have talked this topic to death, and I am sitting in the exact same chair as you are right now, although I don't have a FASS, and don't think I'll be going that way either.

Smarty will be the #1 answer without a doubt. I didn't notice if you said you have guages, but that will be the prerequisite to any addition. If you don't have guages then your options go to all the digital "Moniters" like the Attitude with the Edge Juice, or the Commander with Quadzilla products. Big G has a Commander style (I think it's the same personally) The Hypertech has a very neat monitor, but creates only 49 HP, I dunno, everyone dogs the hypertech products for some reason, but perhaps thats a nice system for a towing system, although the price is WAY steep compared to Edge Juice.

You can also consider injector upgrades too, that is another topic altogether. But in combination, can be solid.

You will also want to consider intake and exhaust, as the don't do much by themselves, but they allow your additions to perform better.

You should study both concepts of fueling and timing and their effects on performance. Some boxes only do one or the other, Smarty does both. Then you get into stacking boxes, whew, it just gets better and better.

Then when you are stuffing 10 GPM of fuel down your throat, you will need massive air to burn it all, so you will then become familiar with turbo talk, wastegates, J hooks, Phat shafts, spool speed, and twins.

So now, to answer your question, get a smarty with guages, or an Edge Juice w/ Attitude and don't tap the wire. Then after about a month of that, you will tap. From there, get out your wallet.....

I don't have one (yet ), but it is my understanding that YES, a Smarty will produce some smoke at a higher fueling setting.

Smarty increases fueling at low/pre boost so yes: fuel > air = smoke. You'll be smoking even more when you get a set of sticks

ok....so here I am reading this thread.....thinking (probably gonna happen) about installing

1. mbrp 4inch duals....cuz i like duals (I know...its a gasser thing)
2. A pillar 3 gauge set (pyro, boost, trans temp)
3. edge attitude (over the smarty so I can have a F/P gauge)
4. fass pump

The T/Q is brand new and a valve body is on the way....I guess my question is that I have read alot of positive things about the smarty.....do you think I will be as happy with the above combo or should I really consider the smarty (not to say it won't be an add on in the near future)

BTW......she is a daily driver....I need reliability.....but I would really like about 400hp and a g’note worth of torque and I know anything can be broken if you don't know when to let off

Thanks for any and all input

My vote goes for the Smarty. I got mine in on Monday, and all I can say is dang. I loaded SW5 only, and that medium level only made the smarty worth the price. It pulls hard empty, and even harder under load. The only reason that I didnt crank it up to SW9 was my lack of gauges (coming next week). Its an excellant product; plenty of smoke, response, and economy.

My $0.02.

Thats with 275's? I guess if you did a new pic with the 4.5's we could not see the truck?

Where did you get the Cummins decals? They don't have them at their site. But I am in the same boat as you...there are so many choices which one to go with?
