Question Extra pump question?

I am thinking of adding an extra pump closer to the tank. I hear lots of guys on here talking about it but still unsure how. I was thinking of using the carter 4601hp pump but not sure how to hook it up with the factory lift pump.Any ideas?

Don't use the HP. You want the pump that is regulated down to 7PSI. If you use the 4601HP, your inlet pressure to your injection pump will be 30+psi.

Use a relay, and "trigger" the relay from the positive wire from your current pump.

Get the 12V source from the battery, or PDC (NOT FROM THE LIFT PUMP, YOU WILL FRY YOUR ECM), Just ground it to the frame wherever you mount the pump at. The Carter pumps come with this neat little, nearly useless, "L" shaped bracket you can use....

Good Luck.

That's the one you need.

The Carter pumps aren't that reliable though.

Only expect about a 20k mile service from them... That's all mine lasted...

However, my FASS has lasted nearly twice that now.

Look into getting the pump only from FASS. It doesn't inlude any of the fancy filters, just the reliable pump. I think it's around $250.

Thats my only problem with the fass is the price. I hear that it is a great setup, but I cant find just the pump without the fancy filters for any less than $300, but thanks for the info on the carter,I will do a little more research on maybe another brand.

I was going to get the BD pusher pump kit which comes with the Carter 4601hp. So I don't need that one? I should go with something with less pressure?

Will the added 6-8 PSI damage the Inj. Pump? I have heard that the increased PSI to the pump will damage it.

carter pump

I Am Running The Carter 4601hp And I Have Never Seen 30 Psi . When I Ran It Combined With The Factory Pump The Highest I Would See Is 20 Psi Now I Am Running Just The 4601hp Mounted Back And On Top Of The Tank And The Highest I Get This Way Is 14 Psi As For Wiring You Can Get This At Summit Racing Along With The Pump.

why not go with the RASP pump might be the last one you by.We drop so much money in to our trucks for power but we skimp on fuel delivery.I beleve it's not cheap but what is just my .02 cents

Maybe something went wrong with my pump? I was seeing as much as 36PSI at idle, and 5 PSI at WOT.

Maybe a stuck regulator?

If the 4601HP is working for others, maybe that's a better bet. I had poor results with them.

I just installed the pusher pump. Carter 4601hp. I tried it inline with the stock pump but the psi was 30 . Then I removed the stock pump and only use the pusher pump. my psi is 15 at idle and 12 Wot. Hope this lasts a while, if not it will be easy to get at and replace from now on.

Has anyone tried running the 4601HP in parallel with the stock lift pump? Backflow check valves would probably be needed but both pumps put out about the same pressure and the flow capacity would be doubled.
