Exhaust and Warranty issues
Exhaust and Warranty issues
I've decided on an exhaust system (Rip's 4 inch w/muffler)
If I stay away from fuelboxes and injectors, will I be somewhat safe from warranty issues? I know this topic has been discussed many times but this is a big decision for me. Alot of members say flatout "it will void your warranty" Do the benfits outweigh the consequences, all of you exhaust lovers speak up please. I just gotta have that exhaust but if it means voiding the engine warranty then forget it! I paid too much to have a lift pump or vp44 go out, then get the shaft from a dealer who voids my warranty because of exhaust.
Re:Exhaust and Warranty issues
It really depends on the Dealer's mood at the time you take it in for warranty work.

An exhaust shouldn't void any warranty whatsoever, except the warranty on the stock exhaust itself.

Once again, the Dealer has to prove that any modification directly led to the failure of a warrantied part in order to void the warranty on that part.

Your modified air intake would be more likely to cause problems with the engine warranty than the exhaust would.

It is up to you to fight for warranty work if a Dealer tries to void anything, remind them of the Magnusson-Moss act (sp?), don't let them pull anything on you.

phox
Re:Exhaust and Warranty issues
I agree with phox...you pretty much did yourself in on the warranty allready between the air intake and the oil you are running....exhaust mods should be the least of your worries looking at what you have done allready.....(but I wouldn't be worrying at all)

bomb on brother !
Re:Exhaust and Warranty issues
The AFE might affect the warranty on the intake side of the engine, and internal parts etc., but why should it affect the fuel system warranty?

Just curious
Re:Exhaust and Warranty issues
Monroediesel,

That's the million dollar question. We sell to Dodge, Ford and GM dealers across the country they install our exhaust systems on brand new trucks sometimes even before they are sold. We have never had a probelm but with dealers and the manufacturers you never can bank on a guarantee. On the other hand the exhaust is the least likely thing they will holler about as it's after the engine and trans and really only helps the factory systems operate better and more efficiently.

Mark
Diesel Performance Parts, Inc.
Re:Exhaust and Warranty issues
I fought a denied warranty and it is no where near as difficult as DC/dealers wants you to think. You dont need to hire a lawyer except for an intial consultation to learn how to go about the process. You will not have to put in a huge amout of time or expense. It is some hassle though, I would eat it for somthing that wasnt too expensive rather than chew up the hours.
