Exhaust Stack parts?

Hi,

it will prolly be a little while till i put stacks on my truck but,

I will build my own set. Al i can think that i need would be the y pipe. and i might not even need that.

I had found a place to buy exhaust parts like i need but my hard drive crashed and i cannot find the site again. If anyone has any idea on a site that will sell just the y pipe for a fair price let me know.

on another note,

Do you guys think i could take a piece of 4" pipe and cut a halfmoon shape out of it then hook another piece of pipe vertically into it ( also cut on a halfmoon shape )? i have seen a guy do this with a pice of square tubing. I would like to do it with pipe if possible.

My plans for stacks a dual 5" with flappers. ( rain caps or whatever you want to call them )

My truck is slowly getting ready. I got the new radiator and intercooler in it and fixed the brakes. I can't wait to get it on the road

Thank you,

couldnt you cut two elbows in half and weld them together?
i too want to build my own set of 6" bullhaulers and im trying to do it as cheap as possible. i thought of the two elbows after looking at a peterbilt y-pipe at the shop.
thanks, sal

when i did mine. i just went to a truck salvage yard and got a used y pipe with the long and short end of pipe still on. like how it would be on a semi. i had to trim a little off the ends then weld a 90 on each end then just painted it black with high heat paint. got the complete y for $35 brand new 90's were 34 apiece.

94Ram, i made a homemade set of 5 inch bullhaulers myself. i just took a set of regular turnouts and notched the top off so that it had a flat surface pointin at the angle i wanted and then just took a piece of 5 inch that was about 12 inch long and cut my angle i wanted on the exit side and welded it on. i did it that way so that you had the nice even turn for the exhaust flow. its a pretty redneck design but hey it worked and didn't look to bad considerin i eyeballed my cuts and used a torch to cut it

I used a Y-pipe off a Peterbilt, wasn't completely flat, but it worked, had to cut a bit and reweld...but it was free. Like mentioned before, my originaly design was just to cut 2 elbows apart and weld facing in opposite directions. If you are looking for elbows, not sure what size ya need...but I found Fastenal has had the best price

My first set of stacks I made up I took and cut a hole in the side of the pipe and made more of a T than a Y ( I think thats what ur talking abt cutting the half moon out) It worked pretty good

Well i think i did pretty good here.

My Buddy took these off of a utility body he bought. They are short, but i will extend them or rebuild them using only the "T" piece and the flappers.

They are 4.5" OD and they are heavy.

The last picture is a little higher than i want them to sit but it was just for a visual. I think I am just goint to cut these up and use what i need. I measured and a piece of 4" pipe will jam tightly inside this 4.5" pipe. So i will just jam two elbows in and run it up to straight cuts then put the flappers on them. Or i might run it like this for now untill i get a bit more money to spend.

i went to a big rig exhaust shop and got a new custom set up 4" to 6" stacks. i told them what i wanted and they made it, i put a "T" instead of a "Y" so i would get better sound, just make sure theres a flex pipe in your set up.
Here is my list

1 - 5ft 4" can be cut to size later
1 - 90* 4"
1 - 30* 4"
1 - 2ft flex 4"
1 - "T" 4"
2 - 90* 4" to 6"
2 - 6" stacks

dont forget the clamps ...

your better off with a smoke box, take some thick walled 6 inch square tubing, cap both ends, weld in 2 5" pieces at both sides to mount your stacks on, and one 3" on the bottom side to hook it all up, 36" stacks come up just above the cab on this setup. thats how i did my dads dump truck (its a 3500) its sounds freakin awesome

on my 2500 i made a T, i took 4 foot of 5 inch pipe, and put two 90 degree elbows on the ends, then i cut a hole in the bottom of the pipe and welded my 4in into it. it sounds ok, but at around 2200 rpm you get a **** load of turbo hiss and it only gets worse with more rpm.

The smoke box sounds like a kenworth, my setup sounds like a ****** off pulpwood truck with a 300 six cylinder in it
