Just curious as to what size exhaust comes stock on a 2001 CTD?

I just bought a 2001 and thought it looked bigger than 3" wondering if upgrading to 4" is worth it without allot of power upgrades? Still have the resonator and stock muffler on it.

I thought 3" was standard on all years prior to 2003.

A 2001 should have 3" to the resonator, 4" out of the resonator into the muffler, and 3" clear back to the 4" tip.

At least all the ones I've seen have...

67HotRod,

Nope it's 3.5, if it's stock you'll get a lot lower EGT's, quicker spooling up turbo and if you plan to add a box and or injectors etc an exhaust system will really allow you to get the full use of them and keep the temps sane.

We have aluminized, T-409 and T-304 stainless single and dual systems, they all have 100% welded hangers and fit just like the stock OEM system for a nice easy install and such.

Give us a call or check out our site for specs and details etc.

I'm not looking to bomb the truck, I bought it to pull my travel trailer without having to wipe soot off it. I'm thinking a high flow muffler and mabe eliminating the resonator. Being my biggest power upgrade MIGHT be a EDGE EZ. The stock auto is in great shape and don't want to trash it. I'll be buying gauges soon before doing anything else, concerned about fuel pressure mostly then tranny temp.

You will probably want to replace muffler and resonator if you go that route just replacing muffler with high flo will gain performance but will also give you some Drone that will drive you nuts. Aeroturbine resonators have been pretty succesful in helping with drone.

67HotRod,

Well you're on the right track, get the gauges first boost, puro, tranny and F pressure, especially since you're towing. The look at going for the exhaust for egt's and a little HP gain. The EZ should keep the tranny happy and get you the HP your after too. I would also have you look at the van Aaken version of the EZ. Replacing the muffler and resonator is OK it'll help, but by the time you do those two and the time and effort you can get a quality aluminized system like ours with 100% welded hangers, a REAL muffler with ceramic blanket and stainless steel wool packing etc for not a whole lot more. It's in the low 300's, a decent muffler is a C note and then fitting it and the resonator elimination piece will end of costing you maybe 175-200.00. Anyway food for thought, call us if you have any questions we are always here to help.

Well while the weather was nice today I decided to go get some 3 1/2 inch flexpipe and clamps, to replace my muffler, boy was that a bad idea. Me being the dumbest man in the world never even looked under the truck at the exhaust until I had aready purchased the flexpipe and the clamps. And guess what 3 1/2 wasn't going to work, signature600 was right, its 3 inch to the resonator 4 inch to the muffler than 3inch to the tip, so I called the store back were i bought the flexpipe and clamps, and ordered 4 inch to 3 1/2 inch and a 3 inch to 3 1/2 inch adapters and bought four new clamps. Got back to my house cut off the muffler installed the adapters put the flex pipe on, then relized that all I got is 3 inch exhaust clamp, thats not going to work, jumped back in my brothers truck and went back to the store and got one 4 inch and two 3 1/2 inch exhaust clamps, got back to my house and finished up. So to sum it up it took about 30 minutes to put the flexpipe on and about 2 1/2 hours of driving, I was kind of ****** of at first, but then I realized it was kinda all my fault

mine is three inch. Four inch between the resonator and muffler. If the 2001 are 3.5. I know were there's a new take off I can buy. I'll do that instead of 4" system for $400 plus dollars.
