thinking about selling the truck in my sig. so i can get a eth with the nv5600. and also something with a long bed. anyway i was wondering about the H.O. engine since i don't know much about them. i primarily want this truck to pull loads with. thus why i can't deal with my auto. anymore. so what are some good mods for the H.O.? i thought i heard here one time that timing boxes affect the H.O. differently. how much is an upgraded clutch and how much power can the stock one handle? this will be a daily driver, and all upgrades must be compatible with stock turbo. thanks
i was thinking along those lines. taking the ez off this truck and swapping it over and throwing in some injectors. either rv 275's or something larger. but i can't complain about the price of rv 275's. would a H.O. make more power with that combo than a S.O.?
truck answer
the timing boxes do affect the HO much differently. the HO like the fuel boxes instead of the timing boxes. they respond much better to them. the HO pumps are not what they could be and will not support as much power as the ETC pump since the plungers are somewhat smaller on the HO pump, but you shouldn't have to worry about that until you hit the 550 HP mark. however the six speed tranny is a great improvement and a must for pulling anything. the rpm drop of a 6 speed is nothing compared to the 5 speed tranny. definitely get gauges they are the most important thing to watch everything and how the motor is doing!! other than that best of luck.
hmm. I think that the HOs respond BETTER to timing boxes, because they are shipped from the factory with more retarded timing than an SO.
So give your HO a little timing and drop in some larger injectors. The 275s are great, affordable, and safe. But for just a hair more, I'd go with Mach 1s from Don M-- they will run about the same EGT wise, but make 20hp more or so. Mpg with them is awesome.

Actually, your clutch may or may not like the EZ/275 combo...especially if you tow. There are some 6-speed clutches like HOHN's that seem to handle the extra power well, then there are those like mine that slipped after having the EZ on it for about a year.
So if you add some extra power, just be aware that you may need a clutch sooner rather than later.
But on the brightside...once you get the new clutch you have that much more room to add more power.
