Engine noise?

Sometimes I get a strange noise from my engine when I get on it hard. It sounds like a gasser when they spark knock does anyone have any idea what this might be? Other then that it runs great

Thanks for any help to come.

You may have a sticky or leaky injector or a retraction valve may be flaky. or an injector may have low opening pressures.

First what in the world is a retraction valve? I just got my new injectors from UPS about 2 hours ago but wanted to dyno with the new turbo before I install the new injectors. I think its going to be real hard waiting 3 weeks before I do these injectors, I don't think I'll make it.

Sorry bud don't mean to stress you out. You may have a low grade of fuel mine sometimes makes noise when under load comes and goes. You may have a sticking injector or a small air leak hard to say with out hearing it. Did it just start or was it there before your mods?

Retraction valves are under the nut the inj line couples to on the inj pump. The function of those are to help with a clean and fast end of injection and more solid start of injection. It controls secondary injections also. If your injectors are larger than stock, you should go with the larger retraction valves to match the inj. If you tell the size injectors, someone here will tell you the ret valve that is best for your inj.

I too have a very similar noise when I lay into the throttle. It seems to be present only above 1800 rpm. My truck made the same noise last year when it was bone stock. It only seems to happen in the winter.

I wonder if it is a combination of winter grade fuel, advanced timing (I'm around 17*) and slightly worn out lift pump? I just adjusted the valves and looked for exhaust leaks and the problem is still there. I hope someone has an idea.

Thanks people

It just started it doesn't do it all the time but I really don't like it, I want to fix it.

I don't think we get different fuel for the seasons here in N.C. but I don't know. I still have the factory 160s in the truck but have my new DD4s sitting here screaming to be put in. What should I do

It may be the power pulsations from the engine under load it may be louder now with the advanced timing.

It sounds just like a gasser spark-knocking from bad gas or bad timing.

Timing Clatter?

Mine does the same thing. Kind of a low pitched thump or rattle?

I just shrugged it ogg as either normal, or what is causing my massive white smoke problem .

I stand corrected. The retraction valve is on the distributer type pump. Does the same job but different application.
