Yes. My experience has been that a stock plate slid all the way forward will generate more heat than an aftermarket plate in the stock position.

Yes, you will indeed have high EGT's.
Get a Pyrometer.

I hate to sound really dumb but, I know high EGT's are bad. I don't know why they are bad. Does it warp the head, melt stuff?

Yep.
Running too high for too long will melt down the piston(s).
The pistons are the softest metal in the equation and thus, are the first to melt.

High EGT's too long = $$$$

So aluminum has a lower melting point than cast iron. Cool, thanks for the info Rich.

Wait to get the pyro, IMO. I learned the hard way. It probably would've only cost me about 1200 bucks in parts to fix after I melted some pistons, but a year and a half later and about 6 grand poorer after I kept adding to the wish list rebuilding it, it's running again SO if you like to drive your truck, wait for the pyro, I don't remember exactly what I paid for mine but I know it can't be more than 150 bucks, that's cheap insurance as far as I'm concerned. I'll try to get a picture of my pistons in here soon. It's so much worse than the one above. But anything melted is bad.
