EGT gage

My Isspro EGT gage is not reading right. It goes up to 600 or 700 max and is very slow on the action. Is this the probe going out? Is there any way to check the gage for accuracy? Not sure where to go with it.

Re:EGT gage

I noticed my Issapro guage only goes to 900 fast them slows and goes to 1200. it use to shoot up to 1300 and then peg at 1500 : now if I hit 1300 I'm lucky. and as soon as I lift off the throttle it goes to 100* which is the lowest # on the guage.

Bill- I have a fix for that...flick it with your finger!

Mine sticks coming down to 350. Call Don at Isspro and see what he has to say. 503-288-4488 info@isspro.com

Re:EGT gage

I had an ISSPRO egt guage and it always worked very smooth. I replaced it only because I could not see it at night, they have small little lite. But it did react smoothly and consistant.

Mike,

I emailed Don and received a call the next day. They will warranty the gage unit. He said that he is pretty sure the thermocouple is not the fault. Thanks for the info.

Re:EGT gage

You could check for continuity across the thermocouple ends. Pull the probe from the manifold and move it around (while checking resistance) to look for an intermittant connection. Glad to hear it will be resolved.

Re:EGT gage

Actually he gave me a test of it. Heat it up to just about dull red and measure the output with a volt meter I have forgotten the mv level and will have to have it repeated.

Re:EGT gage

Most K type thermocouples that I deal with our 0 to 45 milivolts and when conditioned turn into 4 to 20 miliamps. If your looking at the after conditioner signal, remember to be in series with one side or you wont see accurate readings. Sometimes you can see it in parallel but you are lookin for a small dc voltage(1 to 5 vdc most of the time). By the way you'll need the K type meter leads alos or all is for not. Thermos can be picky. You can go to HOWSTUFFWORKS.COM and maybe get this kind of info. I go there all the time for stuff.

Re:EGT gage

One more thing, RTD's are in resistance mostly and thermo's are in milivolts mostly. I aint no pro so I refuse to say thats fact. RTD's are usually found in low temp situations like bearing temps and tranny temps. EGTS are higher temp and fall under thermos. Thermos come in various types and have leads made of differnet types of materials but in my field the most commonly used is the K type. Hope this helps.

Re:EGT gage

Yeah that is what he said, 0 - 45. Thanks for jarring my memory.
