Edge trans sensor location

Does anyone know what temp the automatic transmission temperature sensor is actually measuring on the Edge install? It's positioned on the passenger side of the case, but not in the pan. I'm trying to figure out how to interpret the info. Thanks!

There are two plugs in the side of the tranny one is one the passenger side where the instructions tell you which it is not the rite one. i tried it and stripped the threads out. the real one you want is kinda on the rear of the tranny. it is just a plug. if oil comes out u got the rite one.

Sorry I wasn't more clear. I've had the Edge now for more than a year. I was curious if it was actually measuring the 'hot' side of the fluid flow. Any ideas?

after running down the road for a wile and the trans is good and warm you should see around 180 give or take. now that I have a double deep pan mine stays around 140 unless I am beating on it pretty hard.

I have been told by a cummins certified mechanic that the port on the side only has fluid pass by it when the trans is in 2nd gear the rest of the time the fluid temp that you are measuring at that port is not going to be accurate do to the fact that it is not flowing past that sensor. I think there is fluid at the port all the time but not fluid that is being cycled through the trans .

but I have been wrong before. and I am sure if I am some one will let me know very shortly.

you must have posted your last post wile I was typing mine. I think you are measuring the fluid temp after it has passed through the heat exchanger.

I seem to run from 140 highway to 160 around town, all unloaded. I'm dragging a 6000# trailer to Nashville later this week, so I'm interested in keeping track of what's going on.

thats about what I use to see with a stock trans. you will probably see 180 on the free way and 190 if you hit stop and go traffic with the trailor.

Thanks for the info. I may add a aftermarket VB when I get back to firm up the shifts a bit. It'll be interesting to see the effect that has on the temps.

they will go up. before the dd pan mine would see 190-210 when I would let it idle for 5 or 10 minutes. but as soon as I started driving it would cool down

no problem at all hauling or driving just when it would idle or when stopping for to long with it in gear. my tc has a lower stall speed so it starts making power at a lower rpm so when you put it in gear it wants to go. kind like if you were power braking a little bit every time you put it in gear and every time you hit the break so you could see how that would make it run hotter.
