I just had the ECM replaced on my truck for a tune of 1100 dollars and when i got it back my chip was un plunged and to make a long story short the shop said that it was the chip that caused to ECM to fail and that it says somewhere that this chip causes this problem. I was just wondering if this was to true of there just giving me the run around any help would be nice

 

Do you mean "they" tossed the box in the garbage ? I would want it back immediately.

Dealers find all sorts of excuses to make you pay for unnecessary work, and they are very against any fueling/timing box.
There have been instances where they did damage but it's hard to say.

I would have tried another shop. Where is this one ?

 

in Austin MN they just didn't hook it up and said that it was the cause and made the ECM fail and iv never heard of that and im just wondering if any one else has had this problem of a failing ECM because of a chip

 

I work at a dodge dealer as a cummins apprentice and i've seen a couple trucks come in actin weird with a chip on and all i've done was un plug the chip and the truck runs fine.... but no I have never ever seen a truck come into the dealer and have a failed ecm due to a chip.....to be honest i've seen more stock trucks come in with bad ecm's so personally i think that your chip had nothing to do with your ecm goin out but thats just me
