Edge J/A

so i just bought a edge J/A and i kind of have that feeling of where have you been all my life. i love this thing. Yes i tapped the pump if it fails it fails just want to live a little. I do have a few questions this is from the edge site.

you can monitor all the information a complete set of gauges would and will automatically monitor and display exhaust gas temperature (EGT), turbo boost and transmission slip and de-fuel the engine to prevent excessive EGT, boost levels or transmission slippage.

so the J/A will defuel when it detects the transmission slipping ? would this be the back down percentage ? someone please explain .

Also what settings do you guys run for the best mileage ? right now i have it on 1X1.

I have heard of some guys losing the module in months and then some having them from date of purchase to today. It seems the mounting location may be a factor. right now the module is mounted on top of the fuse cover in the engine compartment is there a better place to mount it ? i was thinking maybe on the cabin side of the fire wall like near the steering column under the dash.

O and by the way when i first started it i have 15 psi fuel press. at idle and 13 when cruising ..... big relief

Idk about the monitering part, but can report on my mileage. I have had it on the truck for a little over 1 and half yrs. The first 6 months w/out tap but then decided to tap it.
Played around with the levels, sub levels and finally decided to just run 5x5 all the time(past year) except in the winter and if the road gets really wet.
Trans worked ok for about 6 months after the tap now has problems when driving, causing my mileage to drop to a consistent 13.75 all summer, before that I didn't worry about my fuel consumption and got around 17mpg hammered down mostly around the countryside driving. I did make one trip on the highway for an extended time and averaged 21-22mpg at 70ish on level 5.

so i guess it is not a good idea to drive around on a stock trans. with the juice on 5X5. LOL

last night when driving home the backdown percentage was at 0% with the tq converter locked going about 60 mph. my guess is that if the tq converter were to start slipping the backdown percentage would go up ?

I don't believe it will backdown for trans slippage on the 47re... (or monitor it for that matter)

:edit: It doesn't, that's for the dmax.

Have you set any of the backdown parameters and alarms? You can change them to whatever you like, as it comes, the egt and boost are set pretty low.

And as was said, if you go hotrodding around on 5x5 too much you will be looking for a new trans soon. I had a dtt tc and vb and the juice still ate my trans in no time. (and I drove on 1 or 3 typically).

First of all, newconcordodge I tested this one out, they last about 6 months haha. I would defenitly recomende Goerend transmissions, they are amazing!!!! Dealing with Dave truely left me feeling confident in his work, where as everyone else I talked to were over priced and all had their horror storys, couldn't find any bad news on Goerend.
p.s. even with my stock tranny with no second gear and a shot converter it never backed down until I hit the limits I set for EGT

Well I only have put 6000miles on it since i started having problems which is very low for what most people would drive in 9 months. Also have not pulled anything and most of the roads I drive are 35-45mph, but have been looking at goerend( bc of good feedback like yours) just wish their main location was closer, although enterprise engine performance(an installer) is right down the highway 30 min.

I drove 1500 miles each way and I would do it again, going to their main shop seemed to just give that extra peace of mind. Also if anything were to go wrong with it now, theres only one place to point my finger.

so i was snooping around on another cummins forum and i heard that the best mileage with the juice can be had with 1x4 or 2x4 or 3x4. since sub levels 4 & 5 add timing which increases mileage and fuel. while sub levels 1-3 reduce timing and fuel. anybody try this ? im going to tomorrow

what are you calling sub levels? I guess i'm not sure what you are talking about. Is it the "more smoke less smoke" feature?
Thanks.

yea the low boost fueling adjustment. there are 5 levels for all of the 5 power levels. i am thinking sub level 4 or 5 would give the best fuel economy since they add timing not retard timing like levels 1-3.
Also since the edge seems to run kind of hot at times i have thought about putting the smartbox back on and switch between the edge and smartbox since the van aaken seems better for towing. would this work if i turn the edge to stock and run the van aaken since it plugs into the injection pump ?

i noticed in my first post it says ad removed. i do not recall posting an add or any link. what gives ?

I thought it was the actual levels themselves that added or retarded timing, and that the sub levels just set where the fuel starts to hit in relation to boost.

you might be right, i will have to try running 2X4 and 3X4 on the highway.

what about running the van aaken smartbox r separate from the edge but using the edge for gauges and turning the van aaken off when i want to run the edge. would this cause a problem with the pump wire tap ?
