I now have a Ram Air 3 (Scotty 3) installed and a DPP exhaust on its way. Would I be safe, with those reductions in EGTs, to run a Edge EZ on a low to medium level? I want a X-Monitor but my wallet is tapped, and let's face it, an Edge would be a whole lot funner.....Guages plus Double Deep pan and labor would push $1,000; EZ-$430. ???

 

Well I am running the same combo of stuff and can tell you this. I run on level 4 all the time. Running with a trailer at 30,000# gross I can go up through all the gears at full throttle shifting in the 2900-3000 rpm area and not hit 1200 deg untill I get in 5th gear at about 2700 rpms. Then it gets in that 1200 area and I shift to 6th and it drops right down. Same load running down the road at 70 mph I can go up hills in 6th at full throttle and it peaks around 1150 degs.

Empty I can't even come close to getting to a dangerous temp unless I hold it full throttle in 6th untill it gets to 90 mph or so.

Only differnce is that I have a 6 speed and don't know if the auto will hold the temps up their higher because you don't have the fuel backing off inbetween shifts like you do with a manual.

 

it's not worth the risk in my eyes...i got a pyro and a pillar mount (first thing i ever got! ) for around $150...u would be surprised stock how fast egt's shoot up let alone any enhancements...i now hit 900 (pre) w/ very little effort...remember, it is a good all around monitor to make sure everything is running OK inside the engine too....just my .02

 

When my 01 was dead stock (save for BHAF and 4" exhaust), I could hit 1300 uphill if I was flooring it. With the comp on 3x3, I can barely hit a 1000 on a 116* day with the throttle on the floor all the way through OD. I have an auto.
