Edge Comp Drag box, too much for my setup?

I've got a friend with a Edge Comp Drag box (he's also got some injectors) I may be able to do some trading with him for some work on his new jeep. I'm just curious as to whether I'm automatically going to need a clutch after playing with it for a while, or will I be OK?

I've got a K&N Filter and will have 4" exhaust w/ downpipe and gauges around the first of next week. I don't want to mess with installing injectors just yet, so I'm going to put that on the back burner for now, but I'm definately putting either a comp or comp drag on it. What kind of EGTs and boost pressure can I expect with the drag box on the highest setting? Can I expect a mileage increase with the box moderately adjusted? (say level 3?)

At most I tow about 10,000 lbs (28' enclosed), but normally tow around 5500-6000 lbs. Will I need to turn the box down while towing?

Thanks for all the help. Sorry I'm a little green!

Conn

If your buddy is gonna get you a good deal on the drag, then you mind as well get that. Your stock clutch won't hold the comp w/ the wire tapped. But you can run it in ez mode (wire untapped). My stock clutch would slip in ez mode with my mach 1.5s. For now, get the comp, upgrade your clutch when you can, tap the wire, have fun. When your ready for more, and trust me, you will be, go with some injectors.

As for towing, you will love the comp, even in ez mode. With it on kill, you might see some high egts, but you can easily control em by turning down the comp. You might see boost #'s around 30-35 psi, which won't be "great" on your stock turbo, but I wouldn't worry.

Since you have a 5 speed your clutch may be fine depending on it's condition. I ran a Comp on my truck for 60,000 trouble free miles until I tried a truck pull in 3rd low then I smoked the clutch but still was able to drive it for almost a year before I got my dual disk. The six speed clutches are notoriously weaker than the 5 speeds.

When I tow anything heavy especially in the hills I adjust my box down to at least 3x3, anything higher and you'd better keep a real close eye on EGT's

FWIW, my stock clutch is holding just fine on 5x5......if you are towing heavy with the Comp, you may have to lower the settings somewhat because egt's can creep up a bit with the right conditions as HDD mentioned.

sweet. i've got gauges coming on monday. EGT, Boost and Fuel pressure. I got the isolator from david at diesel manor.

What kind of fuel mileage are you guys getting? The last time I checked mine i was getting 15MPG? i've only owned the truck two weeks, and was kinda expecting to get around 21 mpg.

My 6 speed clutch holds fine too...I think you get lucky sometimes.I can drive it pretty hard on 5x5 and it wont slip. But I haven't really romped on it much. But I don't think its gonna last much longer.I'm adding more no.2!

I get around 16 mpg with mine, just be careful with the wire tap on an early VP. Cooked my pump second day with Edge Comp, but that is not normal. Waiting to get HRVP installed. Will tap as part of the install. Reman'd pumps normally have all weaknesses covered.
