E-Brake operation question

Just bought a 96' 3500 4 x 4 with a 5 speed and an E-Brake. I don't know if the brake works though. Should I hear it, or feel it or both. It has a toggle switch that is wired to the accelerator pedal I think and then to a solenoid in the vaccum lines to the e brake. The switch has a PacBrake name on it. There are two vaccum lines going to the e brake on the back of the turbo, and one going to the brake booster. Basically, I don't really know how they work, and need some help as to whether I'm screwing this up or if I need to fix it to work right. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Cole

Re:E-Brake operation question

Cole,

Find a flat stretch of highway and get up to cruising speed with the exhaust brake off. Turn on the Pac brake and hit the throttle to bring up the rpms - then let off the throttle. You should feel the truck slow down and hear the brake kick in. They work better at higher rpm's.

Re:E-Brake operation question

Hi Cole, you can cycle the switch while the truck is in nuetral and parking brake set to see if the cylinder is moving on the Pac-Brake. Also you can check out this install on a 96 truck of a Pac-Brake.

Re:E-Brake operation question

Geez, that was quick. Thanks guys, I'll check it out. I would like to put one on my 01' 2500 also but it has an auto. But the way it eats pads it couldn't hurt. BTW, Lary, I just finished your article and it was very informative. I'll post my findings.

Thanks.

Cole

That reminds me of a sign over a urinal in a public restroom that said “my aim is to keep this restroom clean, Your aim helps, please hit where you aim “. I know its off subject but a mind is a terrible thing
