Question ESOF operation question

I'm about to head out on a fishing trip towing my 10klb fiver. I pulled out the fiver from its storage area and was maneuvering it into my driveway so I could prepare it for the trip. Part of that maneuvering involves driving fiver and truck over a curb. Last time I did this, when the truck rear wheel was stopped against the curb, the TC stall prevented me from climbing up the curb from a dead stop (engine just revved, no go). At that time, I switched to 4HI and it went right up the curb. Later, someone advised me to use 4LO for this type of maneuver.

So, this time, I tried switching to 4LO. First off, it didn't seem to go into 4LO as soon as I switched it. Am I missing a step in engaging the 4LO? Also, what does the blinking light on the ESOF switch mean?

When it seemed like it finally did go into 4LO, I still couldn't crawl up the curb (engine revved, no go again). Finally, I had to ease forward a couple of feet and make a short run at the curb to get over it. I never had to do this with my PSD (4R100 trans). Does this sound like my TC is bad or is this just a DC thing?

Lastly, after parking the fiver and disconnecting, I had a helluva time getting that sucker back into 2WD. I tried switching to 4HI, then N, then 2WD. I rolled forward, backward and sideways (just kidding). I finally got it back into 2WD after about a block of fiddling around - not sure what actually made it work. I recall my 1999 Durango was finicky about going in and out of 4X4. Is this another DC thing?

Thanks and sorry for the long story . . .

Neil

Engage and disengage 4LO with the tranny in neutral and there shouldn't be any problems.

That sounds odd to me that you couldent go over a curb from a dead stop. I would be checking into that. You should have no problem getting over a curb. Even in 2 high it should just crawl rite over. I am not real familiar with Dodge autos but I cant think of any reason that you should have that problem if everything was working properly. My last Dodge was a 98 cummins with the 47re and it never actedlike that. It would move at idle and would not hesitate to crawl over what ever was in its way.

Take your time and read the OWNERS MANUAL
You will be amazed at what is in there and how it explains operating the 4X4 system and when to use it

C'mon now, I'm a guy. We all know that reading the manual is THE LAST RESORT.
