Dually Simulators
I'm tired of spray painted rims but I'm not going to spend half what the truck is worth for a nice set of Alcoas. So it's simulator time. I've found both snap on and bolt on in stainless steel for $130, but I'm not sure about which type to get. The snap on ones can be stolen just like the hubcaps they are, but I don't really like the idea of putting something between the lug nuts and the wheel, seems shaky to me. So my questions are: what are most guys running, has anybody had problems with either type, and is $130 for stainless a good value?
I've had ss, and al and I'm not positive but I think the stock wheel covers on the 01 I have are plastic! I don't have the truck right now or I'd check for sure. The al dented and dinged easy mostly from stepping and climbing on them. the ss wheel covers looked better longer. 130 bucks sounds good here, I paid more 10 years ago. Both the bracket bolt ons and snap ons worked good for me, but the little snap on front center hub cap with the ram on it ran off from both ends up front! My local dodge wanted $85 each, to which I declined! They weren't stolen . they came off at 70 mph due to pot holes. STY
wannadiesel, I just remembered the only time I had lost lugs and nuts and both left side duals ran of on their own I wasn't running any wheel covers at all because I was waiting to re torque the lugs after working on the rear and murphy beat me to it! STY
I have the push-ons. They haven't given me any trouble but, like you say, someone could walk off with them. Guess they could drive off with the whole rig if they wanted to.

I had the snapon type and lost three of them in six months. There is a different type that I have that have a coupler that screws to the stud after the nut is on. Then the cover screws to the coupler. Nothing goes under the lug and they are positively screwed on. They come with a tee handled socket wrench to attach them. They are named Pheonix and I purchased them from AW Direct which is a tow truck supply.
I had a problem getting covers because I have a Dodge with Ford wheels. So I had to order different couplers for my different sized studs. They came too long so I ground off 1/4 inch from the rears. I have been totally satisfied with them.

Check www.summitracing.com they had them to fit my 90 GMC for about 130.00
They are the type that you put on before the lug nut plates.
The universal set should fit the 1st gen trucks. They probably list them for all of them, check it out.

Thanks for all the advice. I tried to get the type Haulin' has, but even contacting Phoenix directly was no help. They say they don't have extenders for 5/8-18 studs.
So I went with the Summit snap ons, which was my gut instinct in the first place. I'm leery of putting anything under the lug nuts, and it's enough of a PITA to check rear tire pressures without having to pull 4 lugnuts for good access. I just have to hope they don't go missing. Maybe I'll have some fun with razor blades and double sided tape like in the tailgate thread.
