Dual exhaust
Has anyone got the dual stainless system from ATS? Is it worth the bucks to go dual? ATS gives the same EGT drop and HP increase for both single and dual. I wonder what the difference in the sound is for the single vs the dual. Gonna spend some bucks here soon! I need to know which way to go. Thanks...

Re:Dual exhaust
I wonder what advantage splitting to dual would have?. I can't picture it unless you split the manifold into 2 groups and then use a dual turbo set up. Is that even possible? and how would you balance the boost on the separate turbos?

Geezz now I ;D have a headache

Wouldn't be surprised if it has been done though.

I'm sure you could.

With the right exhaust manifold, or headers to channel the right combination of cylinders into each output.

I don't think you could just do the front 3 and the back 3, it would have to be arranged per firing order.

phox

Re:Dual exhaust
Jason Burton from Northwest Customs put together his own Dual system. He had to work on it to get it to smoke equally on each side. It sounded great and it would be cool to be able and smoke ricer on each side 8) ;D 8)

It does come out to every other power stroke. Most v6 engines can have either bank removed and run smooth. I once had a Ford 170 six cylinder blow a piston on a trip. I did that, pulled the ignition wires and pushrods from the front three. Ran smooth like a new one, but oh so slow. Got home just fine with almost no blowby. Those were the days of five kids, little money, and improvision. We had fun though.

What is the firing order?
I'm sure there are plenty of people on here who know.

I was just thinking arrange it somehow relative to the firing order to get nice even smoke out of each side, not a huge wall on one side and a sputter out of the other.

Fer instance:

If the firing order is 1,2,3,4,5,6 then you'd want 1,3,5 on one side, 2,4,6 on the other.

I'd be willing to be the guinea pig for someone that wants to invent a header system of some kind for our trucks. ;D

Probably would have to come up with a dual intake system as well, with of course, dual turbo's, one driven by each exhaust.

phox

Re:Dual exhaust
I don't know that anyone makes such a thing for the Cummins in our trucks, but I do know that there have been headers made for other brands of (gas) inline sixes that would allow true dual exhausts. I've never heard one, but I've been told that they sound very cool.

Re:Dual exhaust
They do sound SWEEEET!! About 20 years ago, when I worked at my grandfather's gas station, there was a local contractor that was running a White Mustang single axle tractor with the big 6 and 'split' manifold. What a bark! I have split manifold (dual carb/dual exhaust) for a flathead Dodge 6 that I hope to install in my '49 when I get around to restoring it.

Re:Dual exhaust
had a 95 with the exhaust split it will smoke the same out of both sides it also puts the sound out of both sides. Dont believe it does much else since it is not a true dual and gets its feed from the same little ole pipe from the turbo. If you want to do it a cheaper way is to have a muffler shop split in front of the rear axle and run them out from there. Hope this helped you. Thats why my 01 is still single exhuast.
