Driving light install question

I just bought some Hella rectangular driving lights. I will be getting the PIAA 510 fog lights for the round holes soon. Has anybody mounted rectangular lights in the bumper next to the stock lights? How should I mount them? I think I need to make a mounting bracket of some sort.

Re:Driving light install question

They're PIAA 60XT's—a good fit but not a particularly easy install. They are mounted to an aluminum channel that I positioned above the cutouts behind the bumper. The single bolt from the PIAA's goes through the channel. The difficulty part of the install was getting the lamps centered vertically in the bumper opening, slightly back from the front of the bumper, and aimed all at the same time. They were originally switched by a relay that was energized when the headlamps were on high beam.

I have recently installed the Sport headlamps and upgraded all headlamp/driving lamp wiring to relay switched 12 gauge wire. This takes a big load off the headlamp switch and allows the light filaments to burn a bit brighter. The driving lamps can be switched on or off, and are disabled when I dim my headlamps. All eight Sport headlamp filaments light when I switch to high beams. The foglamps can also be enabled with low or high beams. I went from the maximum 130 watts of front light power the truck had when built to a possible 705 watts of front light power with my modifications, all with standard output bulbs.

Thomas. That is exactly what I want to do. I have the Hella 450's. Guess I will have to wing it with the bracket. Thanks.

Re:Driving light install question

i have a kit from PIAA to install light in both of these wholes if u r interested drop me a line maybe we can make a deal. it is unused i sold the truck before i could install the light. piaa used to make a light that was almost 9 inches long that would fill that whole perfect. I believe is is the same size as the 959 light but wasnt as costly a few of the truck shops around here still have several sets. i think they are about $200.00.

df5152@portjeff.net

http://www.portjeff.net/df5152/

Guys - here's an idea - go to your local Napa and check out the GE 4509 Par36 bulb - you'll find that there's a version of this aircraft landing light available which produces 110,000 candle power from 55W - combine this with a standard rubber PAR-36 housing and Viola! BRIGHT lights for few $$. Merry x-mas!
