Drivability on small twins
Alpine Ram: your post is dead on, you can actually control the gate to open when ever you want to, hold it off to a point then slam it open.............hit's the big charger HARD!
Justin, what is your max boost between the stages or big turbo.....how ever you look at it?

Hey Jim,
I am getting about 29 PSI in the cold pipe.
I have two boost gauges, one 60 and one 35. The 35 is metering the psi in the cold pipe and the 60 is in the boost port in the block.
Just curious... What are you seeing between yours?
I have not done too many runs with the box on kill... I need to get through the winter with my head gasket.

I can get 37 psi between stages. Boost in the hat is 66.8. At least thats what it was on the recall. Interesting theory Jim. (you can actually control the gate to open when ever you want to, hold it off to a point then slam it open.............hit's the big charger HARD!)
Ponci,
use a pressure relief style boost controller. they're easy to build, but there are plenty of guys building them cheap enough... look for Marc Hallman or Rick Gillis out there on the net... commonly called the Hallman boost controller and the Gillis valve.

Brad, your crackin' me up!
Justin I usually get 37-38 out of the B/B with a spike to near 40, the spike is at the 3-4 shift with the converter locked and yes it's spinning a little there.

Ponci,
the pressure relief style boost control valve uses a spring loaded ball and seat valve between the manifold and the wastegate actuator (works w/ stock style and aftermarket gates BTW) you adjust the spring tension to set the pressure relief point. so no boost is shown to the wastegate untill a certain amount of boost is made. a very small hole is drilled between the actuator and the valve to bleed off any pressure built up between the ball and seat and the wastegate once off the throttle. doesn't seem like it would work as well as it does, but tons of people swear by them.
FWIW, an aftermarket gate can be set up to open much quicker, but you can still get by pretty good w/ a stock style gate... you can even back off a little tension to make it easier to open once the actuator is shown boost as you generally open it sooner on a twin setup vs. a single setup.
