I've got. I've run diesel, kerosene, water, gasoline (whoops, my mistake), and used, unfiltered french fry lard from McDonald's through my VP44, and it's never given me a hassle. -114*F in winter, selling blankets in northern Saskatchewan. I love the VP44.

I knew that was you up here!

I have 2 VP-44's running on penguin fat turning the ceiling fans in the tropical room of the zoo up here. 8)

SCHWEEEET EH?

Just ask Jamie, he had a tour.

I highly doubt you will find anyone with no wire pierced with twins on a 24v
I know of a few people dyno'ing mid 400's all the way to high 500's without the pump wire pierced.
It's not nessacary(sp?), but sure is fun!

i dont want to hijack this thread but what is a mid 400 horse 24V made up of?? i realize that the boxes dont do as much for the ETH's as they do for the ETC's....but what else can you do besides a BIG set of showerheads?

A mid 400 horse truck is pretty easy to build, since you don't need headwork, twins, and all that stuff.
To make 450hp, you need fuel-- lots of it. The fueling can be almost any combination of solenoid duty cycle and injectors. Some Mach 3s and a wire tap box on kill is enough fuel for 450hp. Step up to mach 4s or mach 5s, and you don't need to turn the box up as much. You're probably nearing the 400s with JUST the Mach 5s! But that's not going to be a very friendly setup (lotsa smoke).
You are going to need air to burn that fuel too. A PDR40 (modded HX40) will do the trick, as will the Dodgezilla 35/40 hybrid. Both will be running near their limits.
Boxes and injectors are about all there are to increase fueling on a 24v. Everything else is exotic (like modded VPs). Or it's drugs, which don't increase fueling but increase the burn.

With big nozzles and a box, the VP can deliver a pretty respectable amount of fuel. A STOCK VP w/ box has been tested at 700hp, so odds are you don't need that much fuel.

It's a whole different ball of wax if you want to talk about getting the power down or keeping the truck alive for a long time.....

thats what i see on these boards...but talking with the guys at PDR last week they were telling me that a comp on kill and some dd3's was good to about 380-390 HP. im starting to think that would be true with a hx35 blowing hot air. but i see people with 3's and a comp putting down much higher numbers than that. regardless...i need more air :-

in a perfect world id order a B1 and be done........but i dont have that kind of coin right now. im thinking a dodgezilla hybrid might be what im going to run.

Just wondering if anyone is running twins without the wire?
Again I think he was just making the point that his 1st gentruck runs this well without a pierced pump wire or even a place to pierce it.
On a 24valve truck, its going to be pretty much impossible to spin a set of twins over without a wire tap box. They would have to be very small twins, and then you're wasting your money them as you can get a decent spooling single that would work every bit as well.

One thing the twins supplier has failed to mention is what he done to his 1st gen rotary pump to make it flow. Perhaps he had it turned up so it was flowing more than a VP44 without the pump wire tapped?

Quite frankly, I believe the wire tap boxes are perfectly safe. I've seen two dead VP44s that can be attributed to wire tap and the problems outlined in Chip's write up. Any other dead VP that I've personally seen could be related directly to either abusive driving (foot to floor syndrome) or low fuel pressure (below 10 PSI I now consider low for 400HP+). If the twins installer/builder has had a 50% failure rate, he should maybe figure out what hes doing wrong, because the rest of us sure aren't having that poor a success rate.

Re:DONT PIERCE THAT PUMP WIRE!!!

BLUTIC

my truck is an early 99(built nov 98, in service feb99) .......

I did lots of reasearch and read all about the early vp44 failures, I struggled with wether or not to pierce the wire

finaly I said Heck with it* it if the pump fails I'll buy a new one

long story short the wire was peirced and I've been very happy ever since

although I do seem to suffer from that foot to floor syndrome rod mentioned, I wonder if there's a cure

Re:DONT PIERCE THAT PUMP WIRE!!!

Over 60,000 pierced miles and no hickup.

With Comp, and BD2's I made 406hp. With the DD3's I'd expect at least 440. With the Mach 2.4's on order, I'm hoping for 450-460 range and less smoke. I believe I'll be at the outside limit of the PDR HX35 though.... :'(

Re:DONT PIERCE THAT PUMP WIRE!!!

I pierced my wire 25,000 k ago, no problems other than an angry wife when her heads jerks back when entering highways. ;D Although I am expecting a failure sooner or later even when watcing fuel pressure, its just part of the game.
