Why a fel-pro?
Just go to Cummins and get the OE marine gasket.

Your going to tell me that you would try to save just a few bucks on a fel-pro gasket, than just buying the cummins gasket.
What happens if the fel-pro gasket lets go?
How much money are you going to save then?
I guarantee you, a Cummins gasket isnt that much more.

When I bought mine last week Felpro was $125 plus freight and the cummins was $130 plus Freight. My local parts store told me I would be better getting the cummins part from cummins. Thats why I like that store they will help you out even if they don't get the sale.

Just go with the cummins gasket. Its proven to work just fine so why mess with a good thing?

The thing with aftermarket parts, is that the aftermarket company generally has to reverse engineer most parts. That's great for engines like the small block Chevy where it's been hotrodded for 50 years, and the stock parts were not that tough anyway. In the world of Cummins, the aftermarket has not had time or need to develop a high perf gasket. The factory part is excellent and it's cheap.

I also read of things that would upset most people that buy from the parts store: A guy worked at Speed Pro ( I think) at the place where they make cylinder liners for John Deere. He told us that the perfect parts that were exactly within spec. got sold under the John Deere name from Authorized resellers. The parts that were not exactly top tier got sold under the Speed Pro label from various stores. The parts that didn't pass spec got sold as NAPA parts. (that's not a slam on NAPA, they are great parts generally) But there's something to be said about using OEM with most applications. It turns out that Cummins designed engines for high boost with a thick HG.

Even if Federal Mogul makes the OE gasket for Cummins, I don't think their re-branded Fel-Pro would be up to the same standards as the Cummins gasket.

Like I said, Gassers are a different story. They are made as cheaply as possible within their design limits. Very little need for anything special with them in stock form, which is why the aftermarket is as strong as it is.

Take it for what it's worth,
Phill
