Question Marine Head gasket!

Has any one here used a marine head gasket in there 12v. My head gasket is starting to leak, I am going to get the head cut and then I would like to get a thicker gasket for the install. I'm thinking the Marine gasket for the 370 hp would be a good gasket to use but I imagine it is pricey! Any help as what I should run would be great!

You really should only increase the gasket thickness to compensate for the amount of head shaved off.
Why not just get it o-ringed while the head is off?

is the marine gasket good for more boost too? or just a better quality longer lasting type deal?

it must be tougher, since marine 370 hp motors are timed at 22degrees. i have heard of more than a few people that ran them over 50lbs of boost.

yes, joe donnelly made almoooooost 800hp on a .020 over marine headgasket. i would definately recommend it for up to 50 pounds of boost (maybe pushing up to 60...). your compresison will obviously be a tad lower, which you'll probably notice on a cold morning, but shouldn't be much of a problem.

How many miles do you have on the truck? If you have at least 200K on it, I would suggest letting the machine shop to a valve job and put in new seals and such while they are shaving the head.

Just a little info, when I took my head to the shop, they shaved it .010 (needed it), cleaned it in the tank, did a valve job, new seals and such, let them put in my 60# springs for the GSK, and also purchased a headgasket kit with a marine .020 gasket for $400 all together. The gasket kit came with every gasket I needed to put the head back on. I had 210K on the head.

Edit: Change the fuel lines if you haven't yet. It is easy to get to with the head off.

head gasket

Yep i'm going to get the head planed 1st I was thinking of changing the valves instead of getting a valve grind. I have 60 lbs spring on the exhuast side but I am going to add them on the intake side as well i have a 3k kit. I have change those fuel lines already but will do them again when the head is off.

I have an "O" ringed head and 20 over marine head gasket. The gasket was $78.00 from my local Kenworth dealers parts department. I am regularly pushing 73# into the head with no problems. I did blow a head gasket but the "O" rings held the water jacket is all that let go.
