With fuel mileage? some say it does and some say it doesnt help at all. What is your experience? Most say it does incur more wear and tear on the engine, so is it worth it?

Yes and more power too.
The only reason it's set at the stock setting is to reduce emmissions.
12 valves in offroad and marine applications are all set higher.

I am looking into resetting my timing using vibration damper mark and pump window and tab and just calibrating how much to retard the vibration damper to coincide with how many degrees advance I want using method from this page. Sounds pretty easy.

How much more power on a modded truck. I bought my truck with a plate and exhaust , supposidly the timing was changed but I dont know how much. Would I notice a difference?

I agree all trucks need a timing bump. The pump and use of the truck (daily driver vs. extreme performance) will dictate how much to advance the timing.

I've done quite a bit of testing on just this with my Edge EZ. I noticed that in traffic, I was making a lot of smoke when leaving a light and working up thru 3rd and 4th. It also shakes some when starting off in 2nd. (I carry a 9'10" Lance camper all the time) Then one day when I had the EZ off the truck for a visit to the dealer, I noticed that the truck was much smoother off the line, and made a lot less smoke. (almost none) It was much easier and more pleasant to drive in traffic, but when I hit the freeway it felt like a dog. Some of you may remember when, about a year or so ago, I put a switch and relay in the system so that I can turn the Edge EZ on and off while driving. A little tech help took care of the glitch I had, and it works beautifully now, with no error codes. Anyway, here's what I've found............ When driving at a steady speed down the highway with everything stable and steady, I can switch my mpg readout on and see a steady reading of, say, 15 mpg with the EZ turned on. Reach down and flip the switch to turn the EZ off, and wait a minute or 2 for things to stabilize. It will consistently DROP 1 to 2 mpg without the module. Click it back on and wait - the mileage will climb back up. So, it's pretty clear that in addition to making a LOT more power, you also get better fuel economy with the EZ. My understanding of it is that it increases the amount of fuel delivered and advances the timing. I do know, too, that the difference in power is incredible. The money spent on the Edge EZ is money very well spent. OK, off the soapbox....sorry for making this so long. Lar.

I bumped mine up about 5 deg from stock pins. I get a solid 1.5 mpg improvement, better power and acceleration, and LOTS better cold starts.
I average 18 to 18.5 mpg E-way and open hwy mostly. We also have a lot of big hills and mountains.

Nope, 97 is still mechanical injection. 98.5 switched to 24valve computer controlled injection.

biglar: Your mileage readout is getting whacked up with the EZ- The truck's computer basically looks at the position of your go pedal and calculates liters per minute from it. Then it looks at the speedo and calculates the liters per km or mpg. With the EZ you change the amount of fuel delivered for a certain position of the go pedal and therefore the mileage guesstimator will be off.
True results can only be reached by simply hand calculating at fillup.

I think I am going to go with 16.5 degrees on my truck then. Thanks Guys.

Oh ya, would most big truck repair shops be able to adjust my timing, I dont have the money right now to get my own tools, so would they be able to do it and pretty easily at that? Thanks.
