12v hands down, see my sig you will see what I've owned/own. The Cummins 12v is the most reliable, has best mileage, cheapest to get power out of motor ever! They need to bring it back, because as far as I'm concerned diesels are not at all what they used to be.

12 valves rule.

12v have their quirks and issues. The real problem child is that newer CR stuff, and the 6.7L is at the top of the list. Everything is expensive and they melt pistons.

Most VP's don't give any issues, unless you modify the truck without doing all the other required mods. I have a neighbor that 700000km out his 98-24VP truck, still had the original stock RE47 transmission. Towed a trailer everyday for work. Only had a few issues with the 98 truck. His 05, has two engine in it. Both trucks where bone stock.

I do have a #4 piston melted down 98 12V in my garage, so it does happen

I must say I truely loved and dearly miss my '91. Financial reasons made me have to sell it. But, for the 2+ years I owned it and almost 20k miles I put on it, I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of owning and driving it! Granted it rode like a buck'n bronc but I got used to it. After doing the work I did to it and adding the Durango bucket seats it was very comfy to sit in and was fun to drive while still getting 14-16mpg around town(depending on how well my right foot behaved) in the summer. Aside from a short-lived problem with a loose fuel shut-off solenoid wire I never had a SINGLE problem with it! So I truely understand and appreciate the dead reliability and simplicity of the 12v. I also understand the advantage of 24 valves over 12 valves and I like electronics and computers so I like the idea of being able to plus in a programmer and get an instant 100+ hp. As for the interiors, my dad had one of the first '95 1/2 ton club cabs available in the state, he then ordered a new '99 quad cab and the we LOVED the redisigned interior, the seats were much more comfy and in my opinion were of the most comfortable seats Dodge ever put in a pickup. I REALLY like the '98+ leather interior but a '98 quad cab 12v w/ leather in good condition with reasonable miles is VERY hard to find.

At all of our dyno day events, I don't think I've ever seen a P pump truck run over 600rwhp. Not saying that it doesn't happen. My VP truck ran a 677rwhp, once...

I think it was Tate truck that ran the highest number of 520rwhp (24V conversion), my truck ran 500rwhp on the same dyno. I guess we will see this fall if we can get one over the 600rwhp mark. If it doesn't happen then, might have to wait till my truck is done.

The best 12v for reliable operation year after year is the VE (1st gen stuff), left unmodded, they run and run and run. Of course they don't make much power.

Just the fact that the VP pump is no longer available new, only rebuilt says it all for me.
Cummins still makes the reliable P pumped 12 valve for export.

If I gave you a Ford 6.0, would you vote for it?

Thank the EPA, they are the reason for every change between now and then as well as 80% of the increase in costs of vehicles today.

I have had no issues with my 24 valve. I installed an Airdog and a fuel pressure gauge and drive it everyday. 133K and counting and other than A/C issues and the cracked dash , it has been completely reliable. I add 2 stroke at each tank fill-up.
