Disappointment

After installing my Mach 4s, I was looking for a good increase in performance. With the EZ Comp on 1X1 it ran great and with the box on 5X5 for short burst it seemed to have fantastic power. But then I went to the track and Ran on 5X5 (watching EGT close) 1/8th mile 9.7 sec. 1/4 mile 15.0 sec. , 3X5 = 1/8 mile 9.6sec, 1/4 mile 15.1. The rest of the day was down hill after that with a 15.6 (1X1). Then a 16.0, 16.4. I know the high heat in south Louisiana played a big part as the day pasted (100 F) but I never did get down to my 14.5 sec run from a previous day out, with stage 1 injectors and the box set on 5X5 ( could run in the upper 14s all day long). On all the runs today the top end seemed sluggish, about 3/4 way down the track the truck just seem to go into a holding stage of power. (on any setting). Could this be because the stock Turbo is just spooling hot air at the upper end? I just did not seem to have this problem before changing injectors. Off the line there is a different problem, If just boosting 5 psi, the truck is slow at take off and then sling shots when the turbo spools up, If you run 10-15 psi, the tires just smoke. Some of this can be taken care of with driver improvement. Just did not seem to be a problem before. Any suggestions?

if you are still running the hy35 turbo, that is your problem. You need more air for sure

Your turbo is severely limiting your power. I'll bet you truck smokes like a freight train doesn't it.

BigBlue,

It does good on the 1X1 setting, Smokes in the 5X5. The turbo is limiting but I would have thought it would have done as good or a little better with 150hp injectors instead of the 50 hp Stage 1s. I'll just have to buy a bigger turbo and hope it unleases all the wild horses.

Thanks
Gene

It does good on 1x1 because there's not near the amount of fuel being thrown in on 1x1 as there is on 5x5. You are almost at the point that you've got so much fuel and so little air that your putting the fire out. What are your EGTs?

BigBlue,

The EGTs are curling up around 1400 at the end of the run. But it just seems adjusting the box to work with the larger injectors would at some point add a little to the performance before going back down. Injectors plus a little bit on the box should equal little injectors and all the box. But as discussed, I'll just have to bite the bullet and get a larger turbo. Also One of these days I will make one of the Texas get togethers, It just seems I'm working every time.

does it seem to dropp off at the same rpm's.............sounds liek the torque converter maybe..............just one night after installing my twins i stripped out my ATS Single Disk............which threw the tranny in limp mode duss.......making the truck feel powerless on my truck particular in the lower end because the way the torque converter was built but on a stock on Dave from goerend told me cant handle more then 350hp no matter what............and im pushing the limits of 500+hp so yeah even ATS couldnt hold me to the ground well.... plus dave told me since he building my triple disk for drag racing more less.....he gace me the comfort that if it ever starts to slip just pay the cost of shipping it back to him and hell rebuild it or send me a new one depending on the case but will alter it so the new one dont die........also told me if the stator tightness is ever to much or to less hell replace it for free also.......i even called ATS and asked them about it and the ratings on the TQ because i didnt put it in the previous owner did and he told me 450-500 range.... haha that right on mark atleast because from a dyno i did the day after i got them it showed easly on the charts i was even lucky that i pegged 522hp pretty sure the max was around that or it just got lucky because from then on it went south.........

51PSI 498HP/901TQ pull 1
55PSI 522HP/1023TQ pull2
60PSI 471HP/883TQ pull3
45PSI 490HP/876TQ pull4

Storx,

No specific RPM range, Just doesn't seem to be pulling as hard at the end of the 1/4 mi. The tranny shifts hard through out the gears. The only other problem is I have to leave the overdrive in so the rpms don't red line, I almost have to let off so it will shift into OD.

The low end torque at take off is almost too much, can just blue smoke the tires at will. (285 x 75 x 16s). Thinking about some M/Ts mounted on spare rims, change out before running the track.

Regards,
Gene

well....by the sounds of it if that is a dtt tq that ure setup for all low end......a really good tow tq will spoke the tires at will because ure tight as it can get...............your bands sound like they need atleast adjusted and check the suncoast OD gear if it is pitted or cracked causing hard shifts into OD............Dave from goerend is really good with this stuff he sent me pictures of everything to check when we working out a tranny that will hold my power.............he said the 47re is one of the easyest trannys to rebuild really and not that expensive......heck a master rebuilt kit is 150.00......and a shift kit are only 25.00 from trans go.............ill insert a picture of the OD gear that you need to check if you think you can do the job yourself......

one on the left had 45,000 miles but towed 10-35k pds.....one on the right had 230,000 miles but had hardly no towing history.......

you never know because the 2001.5 is the one with the hy35 not the hx35 so im sure he is good on that..........the hx35 is rated max hp at 400hp for reliability........just noticed you have a boost controller .......that is defeating the purpose of the edge ez somewhat ............the edge ez will increase boost by itself along with this it helps the pump have the right timing for this setting...........or am i thinkin go fjust the edge comp that does this........cant remember at the moment

Mike D, Yes the truck is 2wd

Pgilles, Fuel pressure 6-8 at WOT, but lift pump is slowly passing at 106k. Have a new system ready to put on. Boost Pegs out my 35 psi gauge.
