DiPricol EGT stuck? 300'

With the truck up and running again, i just noticed my boost and fuel pressure work nice, but my egt gauge sits right at 300, even after driving around awhile.

i go back home, check the connections on the back, everythings good, lights up.. but still just sits at 300.

So i unplug it, wait a while, plug it back in.. then it just sits at 250? go drive for a couple minutes, still at 250?

For the lights on all the gauges i tapped the dimmer switch... which i thought at first it may be using some of that power to work the gauge, however the instruction sheet says they require no power.

Im confused?

I also noticed Geno's no longer has DiPricol gauges so im wonderin if the gauges suck that bad and i got the last ones!

Any ideas before emailing him for exchange? I double checked the connection where the probe connects to the extension wire, all good.

If this is a thermocouple sensor (most are), then it sounds like the two wires may have shorted together at some point other than the probe tip, inside your exhaust. If this happens the gauge will read the temperature at the wire short (maybe around the manifold).

I just read some old posts about someone elses whose wouldnt go past 400...

Must be pretty common.

The connectors have offset connections so theres no way they are touching each other.

So do you have to go through DiPricol themselves or just the vendor you purchased from?

By the wires being shorted together, I meant that they could have been melted together by heat (touched the manifold).

Goes straight up from probe and is zip tied to the existing wire loom along the back, so no wires touchin anything hot..

Timmay, I had a similar problem, you probably read my post:

Geno's was awesome about sending replacement parts asap. First they sent the thermocouple, that didn't work, then a new gauge and that solved the problem.

On my old 1st gen. it would start off as normal but some times it wouldn't go past 500* or 600* when in fact I was pushing it hard and it should've been right up there. I took the probe out and noticed SOOT (go figure) all over the probe. Cleaned it and it would work just great. Noticed most of the few times it did that was when I was running a lot of Power Service (white bottle) through the tank. I never have measured the proper amount of PS, just pour some in so I'm sure it might have been too much.

Some times I would need to shut it down and wait till it cooled down before working again.

I know it isn't the same as your problem, just thought I would mention it. I would call DiPricol and try to get a replacement.
