diesel fuel additives

here is an article on that:
http://usapc.army.mil/miscellaneous/Lubricity.doc
Re:diesel fuel additives
Yep, fuel sulphur requirements are getting lower, and diesel lubricity sometimes suffers as a result. So if you plan to keep your truck past the warranty period, your friend's advice is good.

There are reports of injection pump failure floating around on other internet sites, with trucks having from 150k to 350k. Stanadyne Lubricity formula only adds about 2 to 3 cents per gallon to the cost. (Stanadyne Performance formula is much more expensive.) If you don't go with Stanadyne, at least use one of the charts found on their web site to pick another brand that also has high lubricity. Several are good, but many make claims which they don't support with any lab data.

Like most choices in life, you sorta have to specify what your basic GOAL is - if you want cetane boost, one product may be superior - but if it's LUBRICITY you are after, another brand may be better - not likely to find a SINGLE product that will do EVERYTHING best!

THAT being said, *I* want lubricity for my VP-44 above all, and based upon tests posted involving a half dozen or more name brand competitors, the Power Service Fuel Supplement came out just behind the highest priced top brand - it's reasonably priced, and available at Walmart stores, and does offer a decent degree of system cleaning and cetane boost...

I use a pint of the PS stuff, plus a pint of ashless 2 stroke oil every fillup of my 50 gallon in-bed fuel tank - then I use that tank to refill the main tank as needed...

And before some jump in to point out that Cummins doesn't recommend aftermarket fuel additives, I'd like to ALSO point out that Cummins DOES sell one with their name on it - so I guess it just makes a difference which way the dollar is traveling...

Re:diesel fuel additives
I would suggest Stanidyne. I have used it every fill up, and have heard nothing but good about this product. We stopped useing "Power Service" at work because of the alcohal used in it. We have lost a few engines due to the dryness. I would recomend Stanidyne.

* I am not affiliated with any of the above mentioned products, it is my opinion of what I have seen.* ;D

I dump about 6oz of Howes Diesel-Treat in every fill-up.

I do it for the added lubricity (there's a word I never used B.C.) and peace of mind.

B.C.=Before Cummins

I use the power system formula that you can buy at wal-mart. I put some in at every fill-up and it seems to be working great for me. I would like to use some of the stanadyne formula though but I have not gotten around to ordering any. I did not know about the alchohol in the power systems formula. I was wondering, do the vp44 pumps need more lubrication than the P7100 pumps or are they about the same.
