Diesel Fuel Additives
There has been a lot of talk lately on Diesel Fuel Additives (DFA's), so I did a bit of searching and found some info that my be useful to everyone. Every manufacturer claims their's is the best DFA but I myself like to make my own decisions. 
Dodge and Cummins tells us that we do not need DFA's but with the tight tolerances of the VP-44 on the 24valve engines and the poor quality of fuel these days I would seriously think about using some sort of DFA. I hope this info will be a help to others like it has been to me.

I buy five quarts of Powerservice at a time. I use half a quart every fill up for four quarts then dump a full quart in on fill up number nine. May be more expensive but I don't look at just the price. (and it's my truck too)

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't PS stuff contain alcohol. ???If so, is that a good thing or no ???<br>I have been using the Stanadyne Performance Formula, but thinking of using their lubricity formula next, since it is mainly lubricity that I am interested in.<br>

I just pulled 26.45 mpg out of 45 cetane Premium Diesel and about 10 ounces of Diesel Kleen. Since I started using Diesel Kleen on every fillup I have seen about a 1 mpg increase and that is in everyday driving with 50 miles of 70+ mph commute everyday. Your results may vary ;D

Gary, that is exactly the type of opinion I was lookin for. 8) I have often used the PS ( with mixed emotions about) and what you said makes sense to me, thanks ;D

At 400:1 ratio of diesel to PS the alcohol content is negligble. I run about a tank per week - 10 days so there ain't a whole lot of time for what little bit of alcohol there is to soak up moisture. I figure the added lubricity and detergents take care of any miniscule amount of water that might be attracted by the Diesel Kleen. Never any signs of water in the fuel seperator so it it must not be a big deal.

I've BEEN using the PS "Fuel Supplement" regularly, and asked PS what the actual difference was between the fuel supplement and diesel kleen formula, since on the label they both claim much the same benefits, PS replied that the fuel supplement was more suited to winter use in cold climates, and that the diesel kleen formula would more accurately meet my warmer California climate needs. I haven't been able to get the diesel kleen stuff at the local Walmart in the gallon jugs, and the smaller ones drive the price up too much to suit me - but on my last trip up to Idaho, I stopped at a Flying J station for fuel, and bought 2 gallons of the diesel kleen stuff there for $11 a jug - will hafta make it a point to stop into those stations to keep supplied.<br><br>The pointers up above are an EXCELLENT source for comparison of good additives available - I won't pretend to suggest that the PS stuff is the "best" there is - but it IS competitive, easily available, and at a decent "bang for the buck" price...

I have a quart of PS DieselKleen. What do yall recommend other than PS? Should I put the whole quart in? Its gonna take about tank and a quarter to get to the ranch.Should I just put the whole thing in or half now and half after I fuel up again? BTW its a 44 gallon tank.

I've been adding a 2.5oz bottle of this every tank since April.
About $2.50 per 2.5 oz bottle, but refilling the bottle from a gallon jug cost $.83 per tank. ;D
In the winter I use about 6-8 oz of Howes Diesel Treat every tank.

Most of the additives do perform a service for us and anyone of them is better than nothing.<br><br>Don't know about the others but I put it in every time I fill up.<br>It lubricates the pump and that is important enough to me to use it all the time,, Regards.....Pete

One other small thing you may want to remember is to always make sure you add the DFA's when filling up the tank. If added onto the top of the fuel the DFA will not get mixed propper. <br><br>I've used both the Power Service and the Rotella DFA they both seem about the same to me as far as millage gains, the only difference that I can see is the Rotella DFA seems to make the truck smoke a little less than the PS.<br><br>I'm going to try some Lucas DFA this time and see how it does.<br><br>DB

HOSS, *I* sorta figure getting a substandard tank of fuel is pretty much a "Russian Roulette" scenario - Diesel fuel quality CAN vary substantially from one tank to another, especially if we don't always buy from the same station - and even THEN it still can vary... SOOooo, rather than gamble, I just ALWAYS use the additive - factored into the price of the fuel itself, it's not all that much an added cost, and then I don't have to concern myself about the fuel quality as much - could I still get a REAL bad/dirty tank of fuel - sure, we all could - but that basic quality of non-catastrophic fuel WILL be covered at least! ;D ;D
