DD time

well a little sooner than i expected i am going to be pulling my tranny for the DD upgrade. thanks god i made a deal for an EEP DD pulling clutch which is currently in peters shop at SBC to be rebuilt, i have to try and call him tomorrow to see when he can build it, how much the rebuild will cost, and waht exactly he is going to do.

this is all due to my catastrophic clutch failure tonight on my way home when i tried to slowly get past the car in the right lane to make my exit. as i accelerated at about 1/2 throttle i felt something let go and the most god awful racket came, and the truck revved real high then went to idle and all i could hear was metal clunking. my first thought was i killed the motor, but no i think i just lost part of the clutch disc, i was able to get it moving in 2nd gear, then shift to 4th and i drove it home that way. i dunno if this was a random failure, or if it was due to my abuse but ill find out next week when i drop the tranny

you'll like that clutch. The pedal is really stiff, it shifts slow, but it engages smother than my haisley. the floater plate isn't fixed so when the clutch is pushed in it makes the famous mitchel clutch rattle gotta love it.

Yea.. they rattle.. Make sure you get the correct hubs if SBC is changing them... There is a difference between the SBC and the EEP hubs... SBC hubs are thicker.. and will not work with the the EEP floaters...

He can do it right.. He's got the correct parts... the person putting the disk together just needs to know which hubs to install... Just have to make sure they get installed...

Peter can build anything.

He will be my next stop for a clutch. Last week I pulled my engine and clutch and found a totally smoked mains and a clutch that had 150 miles on it with no friction material left. It was all burned off.

Main bearings were gone and most of them are now in a large puddle of metal and oil in the bottom of the pan. Think bearing soup.

Anyway, I used a retempered spring to 4100 lbs of plate load and a single disk of MIBA ( pronounced MEBA ) pucks.
This set up holds over 800 HP, but would not hold mine!

Im am really wondering what this things was making for power now. We have never seen main cap walk until over 800. I did not have cap walk, but cap bounce and it was pronounced. I assume it was north of 800. After seeing a disk that I could not feel slipping on the road with no friction material I begin to wonder if it is auto tranny time.

Don~

wow don seems like you are putting out the ponies! well id love an auto for drag racing, but its gonna be alot of coin to swap one in to the 6spd truck, and a clutch is a fraction of the cost of a built auto.

hijack my own thread here- don, what is a ballpark cost to o-ring a head and get a HG? i know studs are gonna run me $400. my next step after the clutch is the head, so i need to know how much ill need to save up!

after talking to peter im torn. im almost ready to just go ahead and buy a SBC and then sell the rebuilt EEP after peter makes it like new...there is a common problem with EEP floater plates crackin...this worries me considering i drive hard and cant afford to be rebuilding a clutch every few months
