Dash lights for gauge pods
A friend of mine just installed a gauge pod in his 03, he was wanting to wire his dash lights into his gauges and found that the head light switch has a printed circuit board on it with very small wires. was wondering where would be a good place to wire in his gauges so he can dim them with the rest of the dash lights.
Thanks

Re:Dash lights for gauge pods
I need to find some wires in the A pillar or overhead that I can hard wire my radar detector too. I tried the wires to the visor illuminations...not enough juice from those.
Any ideas?

Re:Dash lights for gauge pods
frostie,
the wire bundle coming from the back of the head light switch which is wrapped in a light black plastic mesh is where you want to look. You will have to cut the mesh a bit and find the orange wire with a white tracer. This is your positive connection point for the gauge lights. connect the negative to a frame ground somewhere. This wire allows your gauges to be dimmed with the rest of your dash lights.
Hope this helps.

Scotty - What about the wiring for the the map lights? They should have a solid 12V? If not, it sure is easy to run a fresh wire up there!

Where are you tapping 12 volt power from to get some juice up there? What is the color of the wire?
that overhead console with the lights in it was my next plan...however, its giving me a challenge to get it out. I am guessing it is 'snapped' into place I cannot see any spots where I can remove tabs to get at screws. Iwas gonna yank it down but with my luck I'd be breaking it at the same time.
Anyone pulled the overhead down yet?

Scotty, on my 01, I had to remove I belive 3 or 4 screws, and then had to pull down VERY hard on the back of it to pop the tabs out. You may be able to get a small screwdriver up there to pry the tabs loose, but there are 2 more tabs in the middle that you can't reach that you just have to yank out. Once you have done this, the console slides backwards. At least that's how it's done on my 01.

It's my pot and I'll stir it if I want to. If you're not careful, I'll stir your's as well!
Re:Dash lights for gauge pods
I have pulled my overhead down twice. No screws. The front pulls down fairly easily but the back is a bit tough. After pulling the front down try sliding the overhead forward or back. Forget just what I did. The first time I managed to get my hand to the back and pulled each clip out but it was difficult.
After you guys find the secret for easy removal, please post it.
