I have been told that to safeguard against tampering with the speedomitor on 94+ Dodge diesel will render the speedo and tach useless,I know Ford and GM have something built into them but didnt know about Dodge, anyone know about this, some of these trucks have low mileage and it sometimes makes a guy wonder.

there are many ways to keep it from running up miles. simply diconnect the speedo connector on the tranny on the early tucks, just pop the abs wire off the rearend on the 24v trucks. you really need to look over a truck real good, and if something does not seem right, i bet it has been messed with. my neighbors 2001 had 301k on it. the truck could have passed for 40 or 50k easy. but he would never do that, but many others would. just be carefull when you buy.

On the fords, and I've been told the dodges and chevy's will do this to, there is a fuse you can pull to stop the odometer. It also kills the speedo though. Seems pretty low down to me. And besides, who doesn't want to see the miles rack up, that way we can brag to all of our ferd driving buddies.

FWIW I was browsing E-Bay and came across a machine to recalibrate adjust etc etc electronic speedos. Think it was about $1000. I guess it would pay for itself pretty quick if you are a crook. Also saw a web site with master keys for most autos and light trucks, gaurennteed to fit 7 out of ten. The keys were $25 each. Might explain how some get stolen so easily.
