Cruise control fix for Mad ECM.

I don't know if anyone has the same problem I've been having when appling cruise control. When I hit the set button the truck would sound like it was floored then settle down, but the cruise control was not steady once set.

I had read about installing some kind of adjustable valve inline with control module, but I could never find one.
My solution was to put a spray tube (little red tube) from a aerosol can inside the vacuum tube going to the cruise control module under the drive side battery. The tube fit perfectly inside the vacuum line, I left it a little long so if I ever wanted to remove it I could still take it out. The small inside diameter of the spray tube seems to be just right. Cruise control works great now.

I installed the tube up by the T connection on the firewall.

I thought I would pass this along in case anyone else was having the same problem.

Great idea!

Now that's a GREAT idea! I'm in your same boat. Never been able to find such a small needle valve. I'll give it a try and report back!

Thanks!

Excellent idea!
I've done this mod to several trucks but never thought of the spray tubes.
I did it the hard way with a piece of solid round plastic that fit inside the vacuum line that I pushed a hot needle though.
Came close to your idea though by using the insulation off of some electrical wire, hole was too big though.

I was going to do almost the same thing. I was down in the basement looking for something to fit the line and poke a small hole in it. I looked down on my work bench and saw the tube. It was pretty eerie, I knew it would work before even trying it, ( I guess that's what you call the light bulb effect) LOL! It almost seemed too simple if you know what I mean.

While we are on the subject of the Mad ECM. Does anyone notice a strong surge backing out of the pedal at WOT. The best way to discribe it, is when you go wide open then you let out of the pedal at about half way the truck surges a head for a moment like it still WOT. If you have had this happen you'll no what I mean.

As a way to help increase MPG I used a small orifice, from a Didge 2.2L Turbo car. The orfices is usually in the waste gate acutator line. Actually going back and looking they are in a lot of the solenoids on those cars. Come in different sizes too. It slowed the response of my cruise down, and I dont have a MAD yet. Just another idea. I didn't think of the spray tube, since I also play with these turbo cars, I just waded through my spare parts till I found something.

This is a good cruise control fix, but it won't work for those of us with electronic cruise controls.

My 02 6-speed has the electronic CC, and thus no vacuum methods to cheat

Autos are better...
I only get an INKLING of that when i want to drink coffee and shift at the same time. All I have to do is look at the receipt for my clutch and compare that to the cost of the auto upgrades... YIKES!!
OK, and when i want to use my cruise control...
